    Summary – The Gardens Receptionist, under the general direction of the Visitor Services Manager, is responsible for facilitating visitor services and front desk reception at Fellows Riverside Gardens. It is the responsibility of the Gardens Receptionist to complete all assigned duties, tasks, instructions and/or work orders in a safe, efficient and timely manner. This position is suitable for transitional duty.

    Primary Responsibilities

    General Reception and Visitor Services %

    • Greet visitors entering Fellows Riverside Gardens
    • Answer general questions about Fellows Riverside Gardens, Mill Creek MetroParks and basic horticulture
    • Manage incoming telephone calls and emails, taking messages, transferring or forwarding as appropriate
    • Complete class and rental registrations, including making reservations, taking payments and creating daily reports
    • Assist visitors by providing brochures, maps, wayfinding etc.
    • Assist with administrative tasks including budgeting, purchase orders, file organization and invoice processing
    • Assist with reservations, resolving visitor issues and sharing rental site information and rules
    • Manage office supply inventories including ordering and storage
    • Manage and distribute incoming and outgoing mail
    • Open and secure the Visitor Center as scheduled
    • Assist with the organization of the FRG library and affiliated magazine subscriptions
    • Create and maintain databases (vendor information, rental information etc.)
    • Assist with performing receptionist duties at other MetroParks' locations (i.e. Administration Building or Ford Nature Center) as assigned by Visitor Services Manager or Community Engagement Director

    Departmental Functions %

    • Provide intra-department support
    • Keep supervisors informed of essential issues and report disturbance to proper authorities
    • Communicate effectively and professionally with coworkers, visitors and renters
    • Other duties as assigned

    Essential Knowledge, Abilities and Skills

    • Must be able to maintain a continuous positive attitude and professional appearance
    • Regular and predictable attendance
    • Ability to operate a multi-line phone system
    • Must possess proficient technological skills and abilities including the operation of standard computer equipment, software, fax/copier and smart phone capabilities
    • Excellent customer service skills, including the ability to communicate clearly and effectively to a wide variety of audiences in both verbal and written form
    • Must be able to work weekdays and weekends, evenings and holidays as scheduled

    Education Qualifications

    • Must be at least 18 years old
    • A minimum of one (1) year experience in a retail or reception setting

    Physical Requirements Necessary to Perform Job Functions

    • Must be physically able to perform all tasks inherent to the position
    • Ability to see, hear and effectively communicate with others
    • Ability to read and interpret plans, details, specifications and operating manuals
    • Ability to walk, traverse or otherwise access trails of all types, natural terrain, construction sites and all properties under control of Mill Creek MetroParks under all types of conditions
    • Ability to stand, sit, bend, stoop and walk for lengthy periods of time and walk up/down stairs
    • Ability to sit at a desk and view screen displays for extended periods of time
