    Overview

    Cardiology is a nursing specialty involving the treatment of cardiovascular problems with surgery, medication, and lifestyle recommendations. A cardiology nurse, also called a cardiovascular nurse, is part of a team that includes doctors, surgeons, and technicians.

    The Non-Invasive Cardiology dept. provides inpatient and outpatient diagnostic testing, including echocardiograms, Stress testing, Dobutamine, Lexi scans, Holter and Event monitors. The department is also combined with Cardiopulmonary Rehab. This area provides outpatient Cardiac rehab on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and Pulmonary Rehab on Tuesday and Thursday. The department offers Phase II and Phase III rehab.

    The team is comprised of sonographers, RNs and Exercise Physiologist. The department is open Monday-Friday 0800-4:30pm, with the sonographers taking call on Sunday for inpatient testing.

    This department holds national accreditation through IAC for Adult Echocardiogram and the Cardiac Rehab program is accredited through AACVPR.

    The registered professional clinical nurse (RN) is accountable and responsible for the provision and coordination of competent, evidence-based care along the care continuum, which includes assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation.

    The clinical nurse participates in decision-making, teaching, mentoring, and collaboration with the multidisciplinary team to advance the patient plan of care, achieve outcomes and enhance operational efficiency.

    The nurse adheres to the ANA Scope and Standards of Professional Nursing and the Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements.


    • Requires an Associates of Nursing (ASN); Bachelor of Nursing (BSN) preferred.
    • Requires an active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Indiana or an active Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) RN license.
    • Requires that the RN has graduated from a nationally accredited nursing program.
    • Requires Basic Life Support certification through the AHA.
    • Other advanced Life Support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.
