- Provide coverage as a Hematology/Oncology specialist on a routine basis for outpatient clinic and inpatient consultations.
- Ensure appropriate care, promotion of Health, education and counseling of family members and control of risk factors for all assigned patients.
- Ensure that treatment is safe, timely, efficient, efficacious, evidence-based, and patient-centered.
- Supervision, training, and teaching of the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Hematology/Oncology fellows and students who are assigned to the VA.
- Perform administrative and committee work related to improving patient care and clinical outcomes as assigned.
- Attend, participate, and present at regularly scheduled Medicine Grand Rounds as well as Tumor Board and other committees at our affiliate University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
- Remain in compliance with all educational, training, and competency requirements of the Veterans Affairs Health Care System (VAHCS).
- Participate in any committees assigned by the Section Chief, Hematology/Oncology.

Summary
The Iowa City Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care System (VA HCS) is seeking a full time Hematologist/Oncologist. The incumbent must be board-certified in Internal Medicine and must be board-certified or board eligible in either Oncology or Hematology.
Duties
The VA Midwest Health Care Network advocates for a Whole Health System of care in each of the Medical Centers. This is an approach to healthcare that empowers and equips people to take charge of their health and well-being and live their lives to the fullest. This aligns with the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) Mission Statement to Honor America's Veterans by providing exceptional health care that improves their health and well-being.
Duties included but are not limited to:
Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases
Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of annual paid time offer per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME)
Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA
Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement)
Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory
CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement
Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided.
Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting
Work Schedule: Typical work hours are Monday through Friday 8:00am-4:30pm. Alternative work hours, if desired, should be agreed upon at the time of hire.
Dual appointment: This is a dual appointment with the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. The incumbent is expected to work at the Iowa City VA HCS for 5/8ths and the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for 3/8ths.
