Job Overview
We have an immediate opening for an experienced Lead Mechanical Engineer with extensive mechanical design skills that can manage large, complex project initiatives of substantial importance to the organization, while working with and providing guidance to a team of mechanical engineers.
This individual must be capable of devising simple solutions to complex engineering problems both independently and by soliciting input from other technical subject matter experts across the organization.
The position may require occasional overtime and travel as required to meet critical schedule milestonesEssential Functions
Research and analyze data such as customer design proposal, specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or applicationResearch, plan, design, and provide guidance to other engineers for mechanical and electromechanical products and systemsAnalyze, design and test products or systems such as instruments, controls, and mechanical, thermal, hydraulic, or heat transfer systemsPlan and possibly direct engineering personnel in fabrication of test control apparatus and equipment, and development of methods and procedures for testing products or systems
Requirements
B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, or similar degree9+ years related experience.
Ability to create and guide the development of aerospace structure designs including structure assemblies, component installations, and bracket designs that conform to requirements documents and assist in requirements verification of those designs.
Experienced with basic material selection, sheet metal design practices, basic machining practices and aerospace hardware selectionKnowledge of, and experience with ASME Y and generating detailed documentation of parts, assemblies and installations.
Ability to be a GD&T SME for the organizationProficiency with Part List preparationProficiency with engineering change document preparation and impact assessments.
Detail-oriented and able to perform Peer Reviews of fellow engineers' designs and drawings.Ability to manage own time within the program plan requirements.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to obtain and maintain a US government security clearance
Desired Qualifications
Proficiency with PTC's Creo 8.0 or later revision, especially with detail part design, large assembly management and drawing documentationExperience with aerospace flight vehicle designProficiency in design of mechanical ground support equipment and handling procedures / methodsUnderstanding of mechanical analysis requirements and techniques used for initial sizing and design verificationProficiency in non-conforming material review of root cause / corrective action and disposition instructionsProficiency with hands-on engineering support of manufacturingProficiency in preparing conceptual models and design review materialsExperience in preparation of estimates for design tasks.
