    Roles and Responsibilities:

    Job Summary/Overview:


    The Gas and Chemical Systems (GCS) Project Engineer role is a technical position dedicated to managing both expense and capital projects related to high purity gas and chemical dispense equipment for fab processes.

    This is a unique role that requires extensive interaction with multiple groups including equipment vendors, mechanical/electrical contractors, fab engineering, and GCS operations teams to ensure a seamless integration of project related improvements for GCS Operations and Infrastructure.

    An individual within this role relies on excellent time management skills, extreme attention to detail, and problem solving ability to be a successful project manager within equipment management teams.


    Chemical Systems Engineer will provide technical expertise and ownership for chemical systems, safety and quality standards, and improvements for those systems.

    Engineer will interact with operations teams, maintenance teams, construction teams, and equipment vendors to sustain and maintain equipment.


    Specific Job Duties :
    Manage projects to comply with SAS safety-first mentality and ensure integrity of GCS hazardous process equipment and systems.


    • Identify process and equipment improvements as related to cost, quality, and efficient practices.
    • Create new and modify existing equipment and process specifications.
    • Develop, justify, prepare, schedule, coordinate, and monitor assigned engineering tasks and projects.
    • Convey project requirements, review design packages, and represent the SAS GCS department during design review meetings with third party engineering firms.
    • Ensure compliance to applicable codes, standards, specifications, practices, QA/QC policies, and engineering construction packages.
    • Manage daily task priorities and supervise contractors/vendors during project execution.
    • Verify new equipment meets SAS specifications by performing design reviews, conduct Factory Acceptance Testing at vendor facilities, startup & commission new equipment, and manage equipment qualification to meet high purity utility requirements.
    • Forecast, prioritize, and plan future capital projects on an annual basis.
    • Participate in equipment team operations, equipment trouble shooting, planning maintenance activities, and fab engineering support activities.
    • Coordinate, manage, and report on multiple assigned projects regarding work progress, project accounting, and forecasted schedule.
    • The candidate will need to be able to work effectively with multiple teams – both internal and external – to successfully complete projects as defined during capital justification.
    Equipment Operations


    • Troubleshoot emergent equipment issues and provide technical direction to resolve.
    • Work with maintenance teams to plan and execute non-standard equipment maintenance to address failures or equipment improvements
    • Communicate and coordinate with Fab Engineering groups to provide technical support, supply issue resolution, and collaboration for improved safety, quality, and system reliability
    New Equipment Startup


    • Commission and startup new equipment installations
    • Support and lead MOC for PSM and RMP covered processes
    • Drive continuous improvement projects to improve quality, productivity, and safety, while also reducing cost.
    • Evaluate future scenario planning including infrastructure budget and schedule forecasting, utilization and capacity data analysis, and reporting
    Process Improvement


    • Implement standardization methods across equipment fleet (work processes, alarm management, 6s principles)
    • Optimize PM (preventative maintenance) strategies for aging assets to minimize risk of unexpected failures
    • Improve process control and monitoring methods to ensure a robust proactive approach to sustaining large equipment sets
    Shift: 1st shift - M-F 8A-5P


    Skills and Qualifications:
    Education, Training, Certification(s) and Minimum years of experience required

    BS degree in Mechanical or Chemical engineering, or related technical field.

    Minimum of 5 year's direct operations experience related to gas and/or chemical supply systems. Semiconductor or electronics facility support preferred, with an emphasis on safety and hazardous process materials.

    Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Software, and Tools


    The candidate must demonstrate strong leadership skills required to interface with stakeholders across Samsung Facilities, Engineering, GCS Operations/Maintenance, and Construction organizations to sustain regular operations.


    • Familiarity with operation, maintenance, and design of gas and chemical equipment including piping systems and facility support equipment.
    • The candidate must be familiar with analyzing trends in process and equipment systems related to flow rates, pressures, and consumption.
    • Experienced with PSM/RMP program management
    • Familiarity with process gas and chemical system troubleshooting, with a strong mechanical aptitude.
    • Strong data analysis, teamwork, and communication skills.
    • Strong aptitude and desire to learn new systems and concepts.
    • Six Sigma certification and/or use of LEAN improvement tools a plus.
    • Ability to thrive in a multi-cultural environment.
    • Aptitude for documentation and data analysis.
    • Fab engineering experience in the semiconductor industry a plus.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to work overtime / on non-scheduled days as required.
