    Primary Purpose: Masonic Homes Kentucky hosts an on-site primary care clinic to serve the residents, employees and local community. The Medical Assistant will be responsible for the coordination of direct patient care activities and providing clinical support to providers.

    Qualifications/Skills Needed:

    • High school diploma or equivalent.
    • Two years' experience as a Medical Assistant and Phlebotomist preferably in a primary care setting and providing direct patient care.
    • Phlebotomy certification a plus, or a Certified MA from the National Health Career Association (NHA).
    • Basic Life Support and other advanced training as appropriate, a plus.
    • Knowledge of clinical work flow, medical terminology, EMR systems and insurance payers.
    • Must be able to work independently and to maintain focus for long periods of time.
    • Basic computer skills, specifically with navigating within databases containing highly confidential information.

    Duties include, but are not limited to:

    • The Medical Assistant will be responsible for the coordination of direct patient care activities and providing clinical support to providers within one of our clinical practices.
    • Primary duty is patient phlebotomy.
    • Duties may include: checking in patients, obtaining vital signs (height, weight, blood pressure, pulse oximetry, temperature) and medication reconciliation, gathering patient medical history information, expediting patient flow, rooming patients, stocking clinic with supplies, navigating electronic health record system, scheduling and following-up with appointments and assisting with medication fill and refill requests, checking for prior authorizations and scheduling tests, procedures and consultations.
    • Performs other procedures such as EKG, lab tests and injections (once competency has been assessed).
    • Communicates with pharmacies, insurance companies, patients and physicians in a respectful manner and will uphold mission and core values that drive service excellence.
    • Manages the coordination and flow of patients throughout the patients visit to create an exceptional patient experience
    • Proactively checks the provider's schedule and review information within the patient record to ensure that all required information is available prior to their visit.
    • Proactively obtains any missing information from the patient to ensure that medical records are accurate and up to date, which helps to ensure better care is being provided.
    • Upon arrival, captures patient's vital signs, past medical, social and family history, medication usage and preferred pharmacy information
    • Ensures compliance with all state and federal regulatory requirements including HIPAA/OSHA compliance.
    • Provides efficient and professional telephone services.
    • Essential Duties and Responsibilities based on Training and Certification Scope:
    • Able to respond to patient call backs and phone in prescription refill requests
    • Able to administer medication and injections, as directed by Physician/Provider
    • Able to perform phlebotomy on patients, as directed by the Physician/Provider
    • Able to perform EKG's, nebulizer treatments and ear irrigations, basic wound care and other procedures, as required by the practice and directed by the Physician/Provider
    • Able to perform in-office lab testing such as glucose testing, strep screens, Covid, flu and RSV testing, and urinalysis, as directed by the physician/provider
    • Maintains all certifications/licensures as required by the scope of the role being performed
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Working Conditions

    • Average Hearing: Able to hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information.
    • Repetitive Motions: Movements frequently and regularly required using the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. Expect to spend lots of time at a computer.
    • Average Visual Abilities: Average, ordinary, visual acuity necessary to prepare or inspect documents or products, drive.
    • Physical Strength: Ability to lift and move up to 35 lbs.
