    STATUS: Full-time

    LOCATION: Cleveland, Ohio


    OVERVIEW:

    The proud recipient of the 2015 Regional Theatre Tony Award, Cleveland Play House (CPH) seeks an experienced, dynamic financial and accounting professional with leadership experience to join its esteemed leadership team. With new Managing and Artistic Directors at the helm, this role offers an exceptional opportunity for a high-caliber candidate to help shape the future of CPH and leave a lasting mark on the vibrant arts scene of Greater Northeast Ohio. Anchored by dedicated Executive and Board leadership, the Director of Finance contributes to the overall success of the organization by effectively managing all financial and accounting related activities for the organization in conjunction with the Managing Director.


    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • The Director of Finance will work to create a collaborative and positive working environment at CPH and with its stakeholders. The successful candidate will ensure all financial objectives of the organization are met in an effective and timely manner. This role is responsible for planning and directing all day-to-day accounting functions and financial processes of the organization, including but not limited to: managing the consolidation of financial information and producing financial statements in accordance with GAAP, completing all internal and external reporting requirements, facilitating the annual budgeting process and reallocation, reviewing and recommending improvements to internal controls, analyzing and reporting budget variances to Leadership and the Board, and management of the Finance team.

    Essential Functions:

    • Responsible for fiscal oversight of the organization. Plans, oversees, and directs the preparation of financial statements including all accounts, ledgers, and systems, to ensure compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements.
    • Manages monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial closing process, including the preparation of a trial balance and adjusting journal entries. Prepares annual and interim financial statements, including the statement of financial position, statement of activities, and statement of cash flow.
    • Enhances overall financial stability and sustainability of the organization by developing, implementing, and monitoring sound financial processes and systems to support centralized accounting operations and strengthen internal controls and the safeguarding of assets.
    • Provides technical advice and directs the revision of policies and procedures, as necessary.
    • Champions annual organizational budget in consultation with the Leadership to establish guidelines and facilitate budget preparation and reallocation, as well as monthly reporting and variance analysis. Leads monthly budget meetings.
    • Works closely with the Finance, Investment and Audit Committees. Builds trust between Senior Leadership and the Board.
    • Serves as liaison to external auditors for the annual audit, as directed.
    • Assists in preparation of the Form 990 and other tax return documents.
    • Ensures proper accounting and reporting for investment, endowment, and restricted funds, including journal entries, account reconciliations and subsidiary detail.
    • Performs bank reconciliations and supervises monthly reconciliation of general ledger accounts.
    • Financial grant compliance and oversight. Prepares financial reporting materials for government, corporate and foundation grants. Ensures compliance with Federal and State grant rules and practices.
    • Coordinates and oversees regular grant fund drawdowns in consultation with the Education and Development teams. Ensures that expenditures are consistently aligned throughout grant period.
    • Manages organizational cash flow forecasting in partnership with Leadership Team. Monitors cash requirements and effectively communicates cash position.
    • Manages and oversees accounts receivable and accounts payable functions.
    • Leverages strengths of team members and mentors and trains individuals to attain individual and organizational goals and increase financial literacy.
    • Provides leadership in strengthening internal communications with staff at all levels throughout the organization; creates and promotes a positive and supportive work environment.
    • Other duties and ad hoc analyses as assigned and required.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Eight or more years of proven technical accounting experience. Sound knowledge of GAAP and related accounting principles, rules, regulations, policies, and best practices.
    • Strong financial acumen and demonstrated competencies in improving business processes, problem solving, preparing and analyzing financial statements, and critical thinking.
    • Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Accountable and detail-oriented.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Excel.
    • Demonstrated experience in Office Suite, QuickBooks, and other accounting applications.

    PREFERRED SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:

    • CPA preferred.
    • Nonprofit experience preferred.
    • Experience with non-profits and with non-profit and grant accounting and fiscal management.
    • Supervisory experience managing a team.

    SALARY: $95,000-110,000, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
