LHH is supporting the search of multiple local construction & engineering companies for Controller level positions.Location:
On‑site, Oregon (with flexibility as needed)
Schedule:
Full‑time, Monday–Friday
Compensation:
$110k–$150k base + potential bonus/profit‑sharing

About the Opportunity
A growing construction and engineering organization is seeking a hands‑on Controller to lead all accounting, financial reporting, and project‑based finance functions.
This role supports a business with multi‑state operations, project‑driven revenue, and a culture that values accuracy, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
This is an excellent opportunity for a seasoned accounting professional who enjoys both building and optimizing processes, partnering with operations, and owning the entire financial function or a significant portion of it.
What You'll Do
As the Controller, you will serve as a key financial leader responsible for strengthening accounting operations, improving reporting accuracy, and supporting organizational growth
Typical responsibilities include:
Financial Close & Reporting
Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes
Prepare and analyze financial statements
Drive variance analysis, performance insights, and KPI reporting
Support or lead annual budgeting and periodic forecasting
Construction / Project Accounting
Oversee job costing, Work‑in‑Process (WIP), and revenue recognition
Review project billings, budget‑to‑actuals, and cost forecasting
Partner with Project Managers and Operations to evaluate project performance
Ensure billing accuracy for fixed price, T&M, and other contract types
General Accounting & Cash Management
Oversight of AP, AR, payroll, and general ledger
Ensure timely vendor payments and customer invoicing
Maintain cash flow reporting and bank reconciliations
Support multi‑state payroll and/or union payroll processes (as applicable)
Controls, Compliance & Audit
Strengthen internal controls, accounting policies, and financial procedures
Support external audits, tax filings, and regulatory reporting
Enhance systems, workflows, and data accuracy as the organization scales
Leadership, Collaboration & Process Improvement
Partner cross‑functionally with Operations, Project Management, HR, and Executive Leadership
Evaluate current systems and participate in future ERP improvements or conversions
Foster a collaborative, solutions‑oriented culture within the finance function
Provide coaching or oversight to accounting support staff (if applicable to final team structure)
Who We're Looking For
You may be a great fit if you bring:7+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally in construction, engineering, fabrication, or other project‑based industries
Experience with WIP schedules, job costing, revenue recognition, and percent‑complete accounting
Strong GAAP knowledge and hands‑on experience with close, reconciliations, and financial reporting
Background in controller, assistant controller, or senior accounting manager roles
Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, evolving environment
Strong communication skills and the ability to partner effectively across teams
Experience with ERP systems:
construction‑specific platforms a plus
(Preferred) Experience with multi‑state operations, union payroll, or T&M billing
(Preferred) CPA, CMA, or relevant certification
