Job summary
The Lab Clerk will process patient samples for in-house testing and reference laboratories under the supervision of the Specimen Processing Supervisor.
Responsibilities
- Specimen Processing: Responsible for meticulous specimen processing including receiving, verifying patient identification, sorting, preparing, and distributing blood urine other biological specimens according to protocol. ,
- Phone Customer Service: Field phone calls provide ordering information on lab tests specimen requirements answering telephones taking relaying messages offering phone customer service includes receiving calls regarding test ordering information patient results from providers contacting reference laboratories test inquiries resolution effective communication ensures that inquiries are addressed promptly accurately supporting overall laboratory efficiency ,
- Documentation Resource Management: Serving as a lab resource handling documentation related to lab incidents fills out reference lab forms resolves specimen issues reports issues ensure results received external testing sites scan results into EHR ensuring results sent providers ,
- Maintenance Equipment: Maintenance duties include recording temperatures defrosting freezers cleaning laboratory equipment ensures all equipment functioning correctly adheres maintenance schedules contributing safe efficient operation of the lab quality improvement compliance contribute department location-specific policies procedures mandatory. ,
