    About this job:
    Works directly for the dispatch supervisor and receives additional direction from the terminal supervisors and manager.

    Conducts two-way radio communications with buses, drivers, and other equipment as well as personnel in the execution of all facets of transportation support for District students.

    Reviews route and student information and provides critical input when required to ensure a valued service to our customers at the least cost.

    May also perform the duties of a bus driver when necessary.

    What You'll Do:

    • Executes clear, concise communications with all radio-equipped vehicles for all correct vehicles and routes; practices strict compliance with all Federal Communications Commission procedures and regulations regarding radio operations
    • Prepares, maintains, and distributes daily record logs, appropriate referral information, and accident notification reports
    • Obtains and distributes information about excursions, after school activities, and athletic transportation requirements
    • When appropriate, prepares and forwards referrals for work rule violations in accordance with department policies and procedures
    • Receives and appropriately responds to incoming phone calls from transportation staff, parents, school representatives and other members of the community; knows correct contacts and phone numbers for responses requiring specific expertise
    • Maintains a continuous and cooperative working relationship with athletic/excursion/activities staff
    • Performs additional command center duties in the event of accidents, inclement weather, and other potential emergency operations
    • Assumes the duties of a bus driver when required, performing the following functions: picking up and returning students; maintaining order among students aboard the school bus and reporting cases of misbehavior to school and staff officials; taking responsible action and following appropriate procedures in case of an accident or emergency situation; inspecting bus fuel levels, oil, water, lights, brakes, and safety equipment; keeping bus clean inside and out; and completing all applicable daily reports

    What You'll Need:

    • High School Diploma/GED
    • Two (2) years working a school or other large transportation company
    • Two (2) years experience in dispatch duties
    • Experience with two-way radio systems
    • Must possess a valid Colorado Commercial Driver's License (Class B with P2S endorsements) and is insurable by the Colorado School District Self-Insurance Pool
    • This is a safety-sensitive position within the District and mandatory position requirements include: a copy of current driving record at time of hire, clear CBI criminal/background investigation, and compliance with Drug Free/Pre-hire and Random Drug testing conducted throughout duration of assignment
    • Possess knowledge of transportation requirements in support of educational programs and activities
    • Ability to maintain an ongoing knowledge of changes to road networks and traffic patterns in and around the City and County of Denver
    • Ability to represent the District in a professional and courteous manner
    • Effective time management and organizational skills
    • Effective interpersonal and communication skills
    • The ability to take responsibility for one's own performance
    • Aptitude for variety and changing expectations in a fast-paced environment
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, and Outlook
    • Knowledge of GPS and related software desired
    • Bilingual skills in Spanish preferred
