    Job Description and Duties

    Under the direct guidance of a Senior Transportation Engineer, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing Transportation Management Plans (TMPs) for construction projects on the State Highway System within the District. TMPs aim to minimize construction-related delays and ensure a safe environment for the workforce and the motoring public through effective traffic handling strategies.

    Eligibility for employment will depend on your score in the Transportation Engineer (Civil) exam. To be considered for these positions, you need to be on the state examination list if you do not currently hold eligibility.

    Working Conditions

    Position located in 100 South Main Street, Los Angeles, Los Angeles County

    • Multiple positions may be filled through this recruitment

    While primarily based in a secured, climate-controlled office under artificial lighting, you may also be required to work outdoors, during nights, and beyond regular hours, potentially facing varying conditions like noise and inclement weather.

    This position may offer telework opportunities based on departmental discretion and Caltrans's telework policy. Caltrans supports telework but may require in-person attendance as needed. The selected candidate must be able to report to their worksites promptly in case of emergencies.

    The Caltrans Transportation Engineer (Civil) Rotation Program entails a 24 to 33-month assignment for permanent employees to gain diverse project delivery experience through mandatory core and elective rotations, potentially involving long-term travel within the state.

    Additionally, incumbents may be temporarily reassigned to other project delivery functions based on staffing needs.

    New to State candidates will be hired at the minimum salary of the classification.

    • Appointment to Range D requires a valid Professional Engineering License (Civil) issued by the California Board of Registration for Professional Engineers.
    • Must hold a valid State of California Driver's License
    • Submission of a Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) is mandatory for the hiring process.

    1. Please outline your experience and expertise in Traffic Engineering, including Delay analysis, Level of Service, and Queue analysis using Highway Capacity Methodologies.

    2. Please describe your work or academic experience in:

    a. Preparing plans, technical reports, or correspondence for engineering projects.

    b. Leading meetings or presenting projects/technical reports in group settings.

    3. Please detail your involvement in engineering projects related to work or school experience:

    a. Adhering to policies and procedures with minimal supervision.

    b. Taking the lead in resolving sensitive and complex issues.

    Prior to the interview or appointment, Minimum Qualifications will be verified. If you meet Minimum Qualifications through education, include unofficial transcripts/diplomas for verification.
