    Job Description:

    The Patient Care Tech serves as a supportive partner in clinical settings, assisting the patient care team with various tasks and procedures under the guidance of licensed professionals.


    Job Essentials:


    • At West 3, a 36-bed unit, we look after general medical patients and those requiring Chemotherapy. Chemotherapy is administered by a group of certified nurses on the unit. Teamwork is crucial in our fast-paced environment.

    Patient Care:


    Prioritizing and delivering basic patient care, such as toileting, bathing, changing linen and clothing, providing fresh water and ice, assisting with ambulation, implementing comfort measures, and addressing other patient needs.

    Assisting in patient admissions, discharges, and transfers.

    Delivering exceptional customer service by promptly attending to patient and family requests.

    Recording patient care findings and data promptly. Notifying appropriate personnel promptly of changes in patient condition and seeking assistance as necessary.

    Responsibilities on the unit may include telemetry duties.

    Acting as a patient care attendant by monitoring patients, attending to their needs, and collaborating with other members of the patient care team when required.

    When working on a clinical unit, may be tasked with transporting medications from delivery systems to the RN.


    Collaboration:

    Collaborating and consulting with RNs and other members of the interdisciplinary team to deliver optimal patient care.

    Demonstrating effective teamwork, prioritization, communication, and organization.

    Performing non-nursing tasks as assigned, such as cleaning, stocking, answering phones, providing clerical support, and giving directions.

    Implementing delegated care plans and performing assigned duties within the designated Scope of Practice. Executing specialized procedures with validated skills and in adherence to regulatory standards. Promoting a safe environment by following safety protocols and taking necessary actions during emergencies.


    Shift Details:

    PART TIME (24 HOURS) / FULL TIME (36 HOURS)


    Minimum Qualifications:

    Current CNA Certification.

    - Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) for healthcare providers.

    If working in Utah:

    • Completion of a nursing assistant training program (verification of completion required and C.N.A. certification within 120 days of hire) and BLS
    • Completion of a fundamentals of nursing class with a passing grade within the last two years (official transcript required for verification and C.N.A. certification within 120 days of hire) and BLS

    C.N.A. certification is allowed within 120 days for hires in skilled nursing facilities or long-term care centers if the individual has never been a C.N.A. in Utah. For those previously certified, a valid C.N.A. is required before the start date.

    Strong written and verbal communication skills.


    Preferred Qualifications:

    Experience as a CNA or in relevant healthcare roles.

    - Current enrollment in nursing school.

    - Basic computer skills.


    Physical Requirements:

    Continual need to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.

    - Frequent verbal communication with patient care providers, patients, and visitors, particularly during emergencies, necessitating quick and accurate understanding and response to spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues.

    - Manual dexterity for intricate tasks involving delicate equipment and frequent computer use for documenting patient care, accessing information, preparing medications, etc.

    - Ability to lift and maneuver patients, retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment of varying weights, including heavy items.

    - Walking to aid in transporting/ambulating patients, obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment, including pushing/pulling gurneys and heavy equipment amid crowded rooms.

    - Standing for extended periods may be required.
