    Director, Academic Affairs will utilize wide-ranging academic personnel related experience to act as a strategic partner for senior campus advisors (including senior managers and faculty management) on the Academic Personnel (AP) programs and policies.

    In addition, the Director will play a critical role in developing, modifying and executing policies that affect immediate operations as well as campus-wide and system-wide impact.

    The Director, Academic Affairs employs an expert knowledge of academic personnel policies and processes, as well as excellent management skills to provide the highest level of customer assistance and compliance to departments/units, campus advisors (including deans, vice provost, Executive Vice Chancellor & Provost - EVCP) and the Academic Senate.

    Through the oversight of subordinate managers, a strategic business partner and numerous specialists, the Director, Academic Affairs will be liable for development, revision, investigation, and implementation of UCSF's academic personnel policies, processes and procedures that span a comprehensive array of functional areas, including recruitment, appointment and advancement; compensation, outside professional activities policies (OPA), academic employee relations, benefits, leaves (academic and other), intercampus appointments and payments; training and development.

    The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% - 120% of the established mid-point.

    For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

    The Office Faculty and Academic Affairs facilitates the recruitment, development, mentoring, and retention of the highest-caliber diverse faculty.

    The Office provides leadership, training and guidance in the development and implementation of policies and procedures relating to academic personnel.

    Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
    ~8 or more years of experience managing, administering, and directing HR resources in a complex organization/HR environment; or other related area/field.
    ~ Thorough knowledge of complex personnel, compensation, and related policies and procedures, and employment law related to academic and trainee client groups.
    ~ Excellent ability to negotiate and mediate solutions with academic and trainee appointees and their representatives.
    ~ Excellent critical and innovative thinking to address complex and nuanced issues and analyses.
    ~ Thorough knowledge of and ability to apply systemwide and organization policies, union contracts, procedures, and practices that govern academic and trainee personnel administration.
    ~ Knowledge of fiscal management policies and procedures.
    ~ Understanding of institutional goals, priorities, and values regarding academic excellence, diversity.
    ~ Management, leadership, and coaching skills.
    ~ Masters degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
    Knowledge of human resource management principles and related systemwide enterprise data management systems.
