- Upgrade existing distributed systems to become sharded and geo-redundant in multiple data centers
- Enhance existing deployment, monitoring, and alerting infrastructure to support a multi-region environment
- Manage petabyte scale bare metal compute clusters
- Work closely with engineers across all programs to build highly operable, scalable, and maintainable products
- Engage in the entire software development lifecycle, from conception to design, deployment, operation, and iterative enhancements
- Focus on performance bottlenecks and strategies for performance enhancement
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, math, or related field with 5 years of software development experience OR 7+ years of professional experience in software development, site reliability, or DevOps
- Proficiency in Linux operating systems
- Over 5 years of experience in site reliability or DevOps for web applications
- Programming skills in Python, C#, Java, Scala, or similar languages
- Familiarity with big data processing and analytics using tools like Apache Kafka, Spark, Flink, SQL, or equivalent
- Experience with relational and non-relational databases, data lakes such as HBase, Hive, Delta Lake, PostgreSQL, CockroachDB, or similar
- Proficient in troubleshooting network-layer issues
- Knowledge of configuring Istio
- Understanding of version control, testing, continuous integration, build, deployment, and monitoring
- Active Top Secret or TS/SCI clearance
- Willingness to work extended hours and weekends as necessary

Senior Site Reliability Engineer (Application Software) - Data
The application software team at SpaceX plays a vital role in the organization, creating essential applications utilized across SpaceX to enhance launch vehicle production, flight acceleration, and the development of Starlink into a global, high-speed internet service.
SpaceX's missions encompass a wide range of sectors, including scientific research, national security space programs, and commercial ventures. The team's focus on software engineering and innovation is pivotal to the success of these initiatives.
Presently, the team is dedicated to developing systems that facilitate the rapid construction and reusability of Starship while simultaneously expanding the Starlink network.
Among our achievements is the establishment of systems capable of supporting multiple streams of continuous data from numerous always-on assets - overseeing the world's most extensive satellite constellation and largest rocket.
Collaboration with engineers from various programs is a core element of our work, aiming to empower and expedite the achievements of Starlink, Starship, and Starshield.
While aerospace experience is not mandatory, we seek intelligent, motivated, team-oriented site reliability engineers who are passionate about problem-solving and making a meaningful impact on an incredibly inspiring mission.
You will take charge of challenging issues, collaborating with a group of enthusiastic engineers to devise solutions that drive SpaceX towards its objectives at a rapid pace. The success of SpaceX's missions heavily relies on the software developed by you and your team.

Pay Range:
Software Engineer/Senior: $160,000 - $220,000 per year
Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience. Base salary is only one component of your total rewards package at SpaceX.
You may also qualify for long-term incentives such as company stock, stock options, or long-term cash awards, along with potential bonuses and discounted stock purchase options through an Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
