    :Established in 1970, Orthopedic Associates of Hartford, P.C., is one of the areas largest orthopedic practices with office locations throughout greater Hartford. Our growing practice is currently seeking a Surgical Estimator. The successful candidate will be a team player who is dependable, organized, enthusiastic, and detail oriented.

    The Surgical Estimator is responsible for promptly and efficiently responding to patient requests for out-of-pocket surgical costs prior to the surgery.

    What you'll do:

    • Handle incoming calls from patients.
    • Verify patient benefits on-line to determine if a deductible will need to be met and/or if a co-insurance will be involved.
    • Utilize software to estimate physician charges and patient financial responsibility.
    • Communicate estimates of patient financial responsibility via phone and mail.
    • Additional tasks as needed to facilitate collections of patient's portion of charges.

    Requirements:
    • High School diploma required.
    • Minimum of 3-4 years of recent medical billing experience.
    • Solid foundation of all aspects of medical insurance billing and collections, including basic knowledge of medical coding, and working knowledge of posting charges and payments, and of medical insurance benefits.
    • Highly computer literate with proficiency in Microsoft Office and Excel and preferably, experience with GE Centricity.
    • Ability to work independently, multi-task, and exercise sound judgement in interactions with patients.
    • Organizational and time management skills, as evidenced by capacity to prioritize multiple tasks and role components.
    • Strong oral and written communication skills required, with a professional and courteous telephone manner.
    • Highly committed team player; proactive self-starter; reliable and able to be flexible in a changing environment.
    • Reliable transportation for travel to other sites for meetings and/or assistance in training from-office staff in the collection of billing information and related issues as needed.
