    Description

    Under the guidance and supervision of the Registered Nurse, participates as a member of the OR team in planning, preparing, and producing a safe and effective OR experience for patients undergoing surgery.

    *Previous work experience in an Ambulatory Surgical facility or acute care setting:

    • Must have proficient computer skills.
    • Knowledge of medical terminology required.
    *Prepares and checks assigned cases for appropriate instruments, sutures, supplies and equipment necessary for each procedure
    * immediately reports discrepancies and/or corrections as documented and observed.

    • Consistently demonstrates proper handling of instruments and equipment to avoid damage and loss as observed.
    • Keeps surgeon preference cards up-to-date as documented and observed.
    • Assists with application of dressings and transfers patient.
    • Assists other staff members with completion of routine duties of the department as observed.
    • Demonstrates an awareness of patient safety and proper body mechanics when moving patients or equipment.
    • Checks assigned OR equipment before case to ensure proper functioning; immediately reports any inoperative or malfunctioning equipment
    • Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of departmental safety policies and procedures; participates in identification and evaluation of potential department safety problems and precautions as observed and documented.
    • Adheres to department specific OSHA and infection control guidelines regarding health maintenance and infection prevention 100% of the time as observed and documented.
    • May train newly hired staff as needed.
    • May take one extra responsibilities such as special projects, research, etc.
    • Functions in the role of float or covers charge role as needed to assist in managing the patient and staff schedule, working in collaboration with other charge and management team in decision making process and maintaining efficiency within the ASC day-to-day operations.
    • LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to communicate effectively with staff, peers, physicians and the public. Ability to speak and understand English fluently.

    *Exposed to bloodborne pathogens, anesthetic gases, sterilizers, electrical and mechanical hazards, confused or combative patients bio-contaminated waste and unpleasant elements. Knowledge of medical terminology required.
