    General Summary

    Positions in this level perform various, custodial, and maintenance related tasks to ensure and maintain proper cleanliness of facilities. Positions may repair and replace items, including but not limited to, light fixtures, switches, doors, hardware, windows, locks, etc., Custodians may be directed by public safety personnel to secure windows and doors, unlock doors, and ensure that building alarms are activated. Custodians may be required to drive to satellite locations. Custodians will assist with event set ups/take downs. Alternate work shift.

    This position is a classified full-time position and eligible for overtime.

    Currently recruiting for two position, schedules as follows: Schedule: Mon - Fri 4pm - 12:30am

    SALARY INFORMATION: The above salary reflects the starting step (Step C) Range 34 and ending step (Step M) salary for this classified position and includes a 5% King County compensation provision. As a new employed classified employee, based on annual increments, it will take 5 years to reach Step L on the salary schedule, 11 years to reach step M on the salary schedule. This does not reflect any contractual changes, legislative mandated salary increases or Cost of Living Increases (COLA's) that may be approved in the future.
    Essential Tasks

    Directly under the supervision of the Custodial Manager, this position will:
    • Clean buildings, offices, rooms, institutional and non-institutional facilities;
    • Apply health, safety and cleaning standards for cleaning and sanitizing showers, restrooms, and toilet facilities;
    • Maintain supplies and materials such as toilet paper, paper towels, soap, for restrooms, showers and toilet facilities;
    • Clean chalkboards and erasers, dust and wipe furniture, sweep, mop, vacuum floors, empty wastebaskets, trash and recycle containers, empty and clean ash trays and cigarette urns,
    • Sweep, mop, scrub, wax and polish floors, walls and woodwork; dust furniture and equipment; empty wastebaskets; polish furniture and metal fixture; wash window; vacuums rugs, curtains and furniture;
    • Set up and take down equipment and furnishing;
    • Repair or replace doors, hardware, windows, locks, gutters, benches, tables, desks, chairs, cabinets;
    • Repair and maintain electric powered janitorial tools and electric or gas powered lawn equipment such as vacuum cleaners, floor polishers, floor scrubbers, hand mowers, riding lawn mowers, and edging tools;
    • Make rounds, locking doors, closing windows, turning off lights and replacing burned out light bulbs, turning air conditioning and other equipment on and off;
    • Repair or replace fixture, furnishings, and any other miscellaneous objects;
    • Paint small offices, latrines, kitchens, classrooms;
    • Move furniture and equipment; arrange tables and chairs for special events; collect and disposes of garbage and trash; shovel snow and sweep and clean sidewalks on an emergency basis;
    • Perform occasional yard and garden chores such as mowing, weeding or raking leaves and debris;
    • Orders custodial supplies and equipment and issue supplies to employees;
    • May supervise lower level staff.
    Ability to:
    • Identify and resolve minor maintenance problems;
    • Inspect areas and ensure that departmental/facility cleanliness standards are met;
    • Perform minor maintenance and repair work, such as unskilled painting, cleaning furnace flues, oiling furnace motors, sharpening tools and replacing faucet washers or toilet tank floats;
    • Ability to fluently speak, write and read the English language, for receiving and reading instructions for cleaning and chemical handling, and radio and emergency communications;
    • Work in a multicultural environment.

    Qualifications
    • HS Diploma or GED equivalent; AND
    • One year experience in custodial, general or building maintenance, grounds keeping, or semi-skilled carpentry, electrical and/or plumbing repair work.
    Desirable Qualifications
    • Two years experience in general or building maintenance.
