    The Alvin V. Blount, Jr.

    Student Health Center is seeking to hire a seasoned leader with exceptional community building skills who will assume primary responsibility for the oversight and execution of operations, fiscal management, and continued strategical planning for the HBCU Health Equity Data Consortium (HEDC).

    This individual will serve as a key catalyst to build and strengthen the community of Historically Black Colleges & Universities (HBCU) and Minority Serving Institutions (MSI) involved in the Consortium.

    This individual will oversee the infrastructure necessary to execute the mission and vision of the organization. This temporary position reports to the Executive Director of the Alvin V. Blount, Jr. Student Health Center. This is a temporary grant-funded position.


    Key Responsibilities:

    • Drive the development, implementation, and measurement of a strategic plan for the organization. Engage the management team, consortium members and other relevant stakeholders in this process.
    • Review current processes and methods of communication to increase effectiveness.
    • Help define the relationship and parameters between the management team, and consortium membership leaders and staff to include roles, responsibilities, and decision rights of each group, its members and staff.
    • Evaluate and implement the most effective governance and organization structure for carrying out the mission of the organization; identify, recruit and develop staff and external resources required to execute the mission.
    • Identify metrics of performance management and evaluation of organizational goals and then translate them to individual responsibility and accountability.
    • Direct completion of the Scope of Work and Work Plan within the established timeline.
    • Stay closely involved with trends and developments in health disparity research as defined by the CDC through continuing education, research, reading, participation in conferences and communication with members.
    • Build and maintain relationships with entities important to the field of health disparities and medical disenfranchisement including federal agencies, foundation, and other entities.
    • Oversee and maintain the consortium's budget and associated financial reporting in collaboration with Alvin V. Blount Student Health Center's business officer.
    • Communicate with existing and potential donors on a regular basis in addition to completing required reports.
    • Support an effective governance structure that works to engage a broad spectrum of member leaders and fulfill the established goals of the organization. Ensure that meetings are effective, produce outcomes and engage member institutions and leaders.
    • In partnership with the management team, review and update committee structures from time to time as needed to increase organizational effectiveness, as well as improve intra- organizational community and wellness.
    • Oversee setting up meetings (including the agenda) and sending of materials in advance.
    • Lead, discuss with management team and record contracts, memorandums, requests for proposal, MOUs, MOAs, grant requests, etc.
    • Work with management team to develop an approved budget, with projected revenue and expenses.
    • Help identify future funding opportunities and spearhead the submission of requests for funding.
    • Engage management team and institutional representatives to work to nurture community among and between member institutions.

    The mission of Student Health Center is to provide physical, psychological, environmental and wellness services to North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University students, facility, and staff.

    As a health organization operating with an academic institution, the Student Health Center is committed to the support of the educational, research and service mission of the University.

    Minimum Requirements


    Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required with three years or greater of related professional experience; for candidates demonstrating comparable professional backgrounds, will accept a Four-year degree in accounting or business, with minimum of 3 years' experience in a contracts and grants related field emphasizing management, planning, and systems; must have supervisory experience.

    Strong organizational skills and the ability to solve complex problems effectively. A strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, especially within the context of HBCUs and MSIs. Proven experience in a leadership role within a similar organization or in contract/grant management.


    Knowledge and understanding of federal and state regulations, as well as abilities in comprehension of intricate contract terms and conditions; skills in use of computers, including data mining through use of Internet, word processing, spreadsheet applications.

    Knowledge of Banner Financial Accounting system. Clear understanding of general accounting is critical.

    Research administration training through professional research organizations like NCURA and SRA is a plus.
