    Job Summary:
    Department of Medicine at SUNY Upstate Medical University seeks an applicant for a Research Scientist position.

    The Research Scientist will support several community-based research projects that focus on population health, health equity, cardiovascular disease, cancer research, and autoimmune disease.

    This position is based at SUNY Upstate Medical University working closely with Chair of Medicine, Vice Chair of Research and other faculty members within Department of Medicine.

    The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop and support multiple projects including several National Institutes of Health (NIH), foundation grants and pilot projects.

    Most projects are intervention-based, retrospective studies, population research. The candidate should be inquisitive with extreme attention to detail. In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

    Responsibilities


    • The candidate will have the opportunity to develop and support multiple projects including several National Institutes of Health (NIH), foundation grants and pilot projects
    • Oversee study start-up of NIH and other funded research projects
    • Design surveys and instrumentation for data gathering and analysis
    • Conduct qualitative and quantitative research
    • Oversee the collection, screening and verifying of data relating to human subject's research
    • Oversee data management and analysis
    • May help author material for publications
    • Collaborate with the PI on long-range plans for projects and programs, acting as experts in specialized areas
    • Support grant submissions
    • May lead research and project work groups
    • May oversee staff, students, and medical fellows engaged in research
    • Support research study design and analysis of outcomes for projects conducted by Department of Medicine trainees and faculty

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Master's Degree or higher in Public Health, mathematics, statistics, computer science or related field with a strong research and evaluation component
    • Ability to multitask and manage competing priorities effectively.
    • Strong communication skills and the ability to work well with a variety of stakeholders are also important for this role.
    • Ability to provide guidance and training to a wide variety of audiences
    • Knowledge of quantitative and qualitative methods, research design, and an interest in advancing research skills.
    • Proficiency with research and evaluation methods and tools.
    • Strong analytical ability: must be able to collect, analyze, manipulate, interpret, report, and utilize research data.
    • Demonstrated ability to manage research and technical assistance research including preparation and provision of deliverables.
    • Familiarity with data visualization and infographics for sponsor reporting.
    • Ability to generate clear, concise information and to vary writing styles to meet the needs of a variety of audiences.
    • Able to maintain high levels of confidentiality, credibility, and professionalism.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • A background in project management or program coordination.
    • Ability to use Microsoft Office, MS Teams, REDCap, SPSS, SAS, R, Python, and other programming software, depending on research needs
    • Experience collaborating and maintaining relationships with external partners.
