    Only experience obtained in an accredited school system in a similar position may be considered for experience credit on the salary scales.
    The Benefits Specialist shall perform a variety of moderately complex clerical, technical, and administrative duties related to Benefits, and maintain effective and efficient office operations.

    Essential Duties:
    • Perform work related to all insurance and benefit related products, including but not limited to, health, dental, disability, voluntary life, vision insurances, and spending accounts. Validate appropriate deductions for PSERS and ERS
    • Maintain insurance benefits for all employees, including current, newly hired, resigned/terminated, on leave, and qualifying events.
    • Process and file disability claims, death claims, Medicare Coordination Claims, and dependent coverage court orders.
    • Process billing for employees who are on leave without pay status, and collect and remit premiums to appropriate agency for continued coverage.
    • Reconcile and transmit paperwork for monthly payments to PAGE, GAE, Transamerica, and United Way.
    • Enter each benefit deduction in a timely manner to coordinate with the effective date of the employee's coverage, distinguishing between pre-tax and post-tax deductions.
    • Track new hires to ensure receipt of signed Affordable Care Act (ACA) Acknowledgement form from benefit eligible employees.
    • Monitor and make changes to all HR related platforms and website as needed.
    • Perform office duties by answering the telephone, assisting and directing callers, and greeting, announcing, or routing visitors, as needed.
    • Effectively manage all paperwork, databases, files, work products, etc.
    • Serve as backup to Worker's Comp office for incoming calls and claims. Process employee identification badges. Assist with special projects and events as requested.
    • Research, gather and organize pertinent data as needed for supervisor's use.
    • Receive and respond to benefits inquiries and concerns from employees, family members, hiring authorities, District administrators, applicants, and insurance providers until a resolution is determined.
    • Maintain integrity of confidential information related to district and division operations.
    • Provide exceptional customer service on a daily basis, and maintain professional practices.
    • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
    Qualifications:
    • Minimum of a High School Diploma or state approved high school equivalency (HSE), required.
    • Minimum of one to two years of general insurance/benefits experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities required in the assigned Benefits
    • Working knowledge of HIPAA and Section 125 of IRS Regulations preferred.
    • Strong computer/technical skills, including Microsoft Office programs, Microsoft Outlook, and Google Docs and Google Drive.
    • Ability to work well with co-workers, applicants, and employees.
    • Exceptional integrity, commitment to confidentiality, excellent character, and strong professional reputation.
    • Ability to abide by the Georgia Professional Standards Code of Ethics for Educators.
    • Must be regularly, predictably, and reliably at work.
    • Ability to be present at the physical worksite.
    • Must perform tasks involving prolonged periods of standing, walking, and sitting.
    • Must perform routine physical activities such as bending and lifting/pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds.
    • Vision, hearing, written, and verbal communications are essential factors in performing required tasks.
