    Description

    Cleveland-Cliffs has an immediate opening for a Structural Engineer at our Steelton operation. The Structural Engineer is responsible for planning and implementation of plant engineering and repair activities. This role will be collaborating and coordinating with department stakeholders, engineering/inspection firms, and repair contractors. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated and thrive in a fast-paced work environment with complex operations.

    Summary of Responsibilities:

    + Perform design/analysis calculations for structural steel, concrete and foundations.

    + Perform structural inspections and field observations.

    + Create design drawings and specifications.

    + Create analysis and inspection reports.

    + Design, develop, budget, implement and manage structural engineering projects.

    + Drive inspection and repair process improvements within the facility to assure successful implementation of the system standards

    + Responsibly control project-specific budgets and provide input to the Engineering Manager for infrastructure activities.

    + Provide reporting to the Steelton Engineering Manager as requested and required.

    + Advocate on the behalf of team members by securing adequate resources for success.

    + Collaborate with other Infrastructure Engineering team leaders, Area Engineering Managers and departments.

    + Forge and maintain relationships with inspection service organizations, engineering and repair contractors, as well as suppliers and customers.

    + Other responsibilities as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    + Bachelor's degree in civil/structural or mechanical engineering.

    + A strong technical competence regarding asset reliability, structural, mechanical and electrical failure modes analysis and fixed asset maintenance best practices.

    + Mature and proven communication skills, both written and oral.

    + Working knowledge of different engineering disciplines and their application to asset maintenance and reliability

    + Familiarity with plant CMMS system functionality and its relationship with the inspection, repair and verification process.

    + An understanding and positive overriding philosophy regarding the safety of all personnel working in each area facility.

    + An aptitude for managing risk.

    + Mathematical proficiency and literary competency

    + An appreciation for the complex nature of the steel industry and the importance of each component of its physical plant and their relationship to the continued safe and productive operation of the facilities.

    + Well documented history of related multidisciplinary engineering experience.

    + Proven supervisory, technical and communications skills.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    + Experience in a union environment
