    Description

    Maine Department Corrections (MDOC), Adult Community Corrections, Region 1, this position is located in Portland, and is open to current Probation Officers only.

    Maine Department of Corrections (MDOC) is destigmatizing corrections for the betterment of all Maine communities. Adult Community Corrections is committed to a new model of corrections, one promoting the safety and wellbeing of staff and clients, while also ensuring community clients see fewer barriers as they meaningfully engage with rehabilitative-focused services. This operating philosophy, known as the Maine Model of Corrections, is founded in the principles of normalization and humanization, with emphasis on destigmatization, respect, and modernization of the Department as a whole.

    Primary Responsibilities Include:

    • Supervise and manage clients assigned to MDOC or released to the community;
    • Assess clients' risks and needs;
    • Counsel and supervise clients while on probation or other forms of community release;
    • Prepare after-care, pardon, and pre-sentence investigation reports for the court;
    • Perform interstate compact duties and participate in the formulation and oversight of community reentry release plans; and
    • Make decisions relative to the referral, detention, prosecution, disposition, and discharge of clients.
    Administrative duties include, but are not limited to, gathering, and entering data into a computer tracking system and providing various reports from this information, so that effective decisions can be made regarding delivery of service.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    A Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice, a Behavior Science or Social Science area, or a closely related field and six (6) months of experience in probation/parole work, counseling or case management, or law enforcement activities. Directly related experience may be substituted for educational requirements on a year-for-year basis.

    LICENSING/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
    • Possession of a Class C Maine Driver's License.
