    Job Summary/Basic Functions

    The EKU Department of Agriculture has an open position for a student technician to assist with a climate-smart project focused on regional farms.

    Duties will include working with a faculty member to develop maps using GIS software, collect and analyze soil samples, record keeping, and possible interaction with agricultural producers in eastern KY. This is a student position that is available immediately, with options to renew for summer, and potentially the fall 2024 semester.

    The applicant should have had classwork or experience in GIS, some laboratory experience, and an interest in applied research. A background in agriculture or horticulture is a plus.

    Candidates must be enrolled at EKU and be qualified for EKU student employment.

    Review of qualified candidates will begin immediately and continue until position is filled.

  • Preferred Qualifications:

    Candidates must be enrolled at EKU and be qualified for EKU student employment. Classwork or experience in GIS, some laboratory experience, and an interest in applied research is preferred. Background in agriculture, horticulture or related natural science is preferred.

    Job Duties:

  • 40% - Develop and maintain GIS maps and data - (Essential)
  • 30% - Assist in collection of soil samples - (Essential)

  • 10% - data collection - (Essential)
  • 10 % - As assigned - (Marginal)
  • Sponsorship: Visa sponsorship will be considered on a case-by-case basis, depending upon the needs of the unit, available sponsorship budget, and the qualifications of the candidate.
