The nonprofit organization provides comprehensive case management and social services regardless of religious affiliation, serving approximately 6,000 people annually. The Center operates under the sponsored relationship of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet.

Job Description

Job Summary

The Mental Health Specialist role focuses on delivering quality care following the regulations set by the Los Angeles Department of Mental Health. The position involves offering therapy and case management services to adults dealing with severe mental illness and substance use disorders.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Key Areas of Responsibility:

- Implement a harm reduction and housing first approach to provide services
- Establish and maintain strong connections with the community and other service providers
- Conduct mental health assessments and interventions for individuals with severe mental illness
- Assist individuals in developing coordination and service plans
- Offer therapeutic services to enhance community engagement and independence

Essential Duties:

- Identify and support clients at risk of losing housing
- Build trust and rapport with individuals
- Create and execute client treatment plans
- Provide necessary documentation of services and plans
- Maintain organized client files and comply with agency requirements
- Coordinate services with the treatment team and other providers
- Conduct outreach services and education within the community
- Link clients to essential services and support
- Provide skill-building and therapy services
- Use evidence-based practices to meet client needs effectively
- Participate in various meetings and supervise client care
- Conduct group therapy sessions when needed

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

- Highly motivated and able to communicate effectively with a diverse group of people
- Possess strong organizational skills and thrive in a fast-paced environment
- Conduct home and field visits and willingness to work flexible hours

Experience:

- Previous experience working with vulnerable populations preferred
- Proficiency in mental health assessments and treatment plans

Education:

- Master's degree in social work, psychology, or related field

Computer Skills:

- Proficiency in MS Office Suite and internet browsers

Certificates, Licenses and Registrations:

- Current CA BBS registration required
- Valid California Class C Driver License
- Automobile liability insurance

Travel Requirements:

- Travel to meet clients and attend meetings

Work Environment

The work environment at St. Joseph Center is accommodating to individuals with disabilities. The noise level is moderate.

Physical Demands

The job may involve standing, sitting, walking, and other physical activities. Ability to lift up to 20 lbs may be necessary.
