    The Department of Psychology at the University of Virginia (UVA) seeks applications for a Research Coordinator.

    The Allen Lab at the University of Virginia Psychology Department focuses on research into Adolescent Social Development, Family & Peer relationships, Problematic Behaviors (ranging from delinquency and teen pregnancy to depression and anxiety) and Long-term outcomes into adulthood.

    The successful candidate will be expected to assist with the management of an extended longitudinal study of adolescent family and peer relations as predictors of psychosocial development, physical health, and aging from ages 13 to 43+, and in implementing a social belonging intervention for entering college students.


    Responsibilities include:

    • Supervision and training of undergraduate research assistants and part time staff
    • Organizing and leading research discussion meetings
    • Tracking and corresponding with families
    • Administering semi-structured interviews with families
    • Handling project budget
    • Collection and management of adolescents' academic records
    • Database management
    • Data analyses
    • Assisting with grant proposals
    • Individuals may also get involved in statistical analyses and presentation of data at conferences or write-up of papers for publication.
    • Assist senior researchers by completing tasks that support research operations.
    • Help create and utilize data stores for research and analysis.
    • Understand data measurement and apply theories to practical information gathering.
    • Training in research techniques. Learn technology and software capabilities, operations, limitations, and outcomes.
    • Conduct interviews and collect data according to procedures.
    • Support the analysis of research results and the summarization of findings.
    • Support the preparation of reports and manuscripts.
    • Maintain research records. Schedule and book facilities.
    • May supervise students.
    • Adhere to regulatory research guidelines in daily work.
    • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

    Preferred candidates must have


    • An Associate's degree in related field. A B.A. or B.S. in Psychology or Child Development is preferred.
    • Experience using statistical software, working with complex research designs, coding observational data, and conducting literature searches preferred.
    The Research Coordinator will report to Joseph Allen, Hugh P Kelly Distinguished Professorship in Arts & Sciences.

    This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.

    This position is located in Charlottesville, VA.

    The anticipated start date is July 16, 2024. This position is a restricted position and is dependent upon project need, availability of funding and performance. Compensation is commensurate with education and experience. This is a non-exempt level, benefited position.
