    Job Summary


    The Chief Audit Officer position improves governance, risk management, compliance, and internal controls, and increases internal audit responsiveness to the Board of Regents and leadership.

    This position reports to the President of Georgia Gwinnett College and to the Vice Chancellor of Internal Audit, Ethics & Compliance and Chief Audit Officer of the University System of Georgia.

    Responsibilities

    1 -


    Performs annual institutional-wide risk assessment and generates comprehensive plan based on in-depth knowledge of functional areas within the college as well as risk management and appropriate mitigation processes.

    Audit areas include, but are not limited to financial, compliance, information technology, and operational internal audits.

    Develops and implements overall audit program and specific plans for the College, many of which involve complicated financial processes. Responsible for performing full scope of the audit process from inception to conclusion.

    Analyzes and appraises complex operational processes and provides an objective opinion on the efficiency and effectiveness of the operations and notes any process improvement opportunities.

    Provides information and sound recommendations to management, prepares written reports and works with management to obtain agreement on action plans to address audit issues; makes presentations to management, as needed.

    Informs the President, the University System of Georgia Chief Audit Officer, and key institutional leaders of audit progress; manages the audit so that time is efficiently used, deadlines and budgets are met, and departmental quality assurance standards are maintained.

    Performs consulting and audit testing to identify appropriate controls and key business risks; evaluates the adequacy of the controls designed to manage those risks; discusses strengths and opportunities for improvement with management and develops recommendations for improvement.

    Performs consulting engagements designed to assist management in the attainment of organizational objectives. Provides training to managers on internal controls, business risks, fraud and other related topics. Manages and/or conducts special/sensitive investigations as assigned.

    As the GGC administrator for the University System of Georgia Ethics and Compliance Hotline, responsible for managing reported institutional activity.

    Serves as designated liaison with the system office. Works with investigators to clear cases promptly. Adds investigative notes, comments, and attachments to the hotline cases. Investigates any reports of fraud, waste, or abuse.

    Assists State Auditors, BOR Internal Auditors, and external auditors as needed. Implements strategic initiatives and direction as provided by the President or designee and the USG Chief Audit Officer.

    Coordinates GGC's Enterprise Risk Management activities.

    Performs other duties as assigned, including involvement with departmental and institutional improvement teams and task forces, training initiatives, and other program support activities.

    Required Qualifications

    4 Year / Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Information Systems, or related field
    6-8 years of experience in auditing, higher education, information systems, and/or computer assisted audit technique

    Thorough knowledge of internal auditing standards and techniques
    Strong customer service orientation
    Demonstrated project management skills
    Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written, to interact effectively and professionally with faculty, staff and the public
    Knowledge of and compliance with the Institute of Internal Auditor's Code of Ethics and International Professional Practices Framework

    Able to maintain positive team relationships by demonstrating and supporting initiative, willingness to learn, flexibility, respect, cooperation and commitment to the success of the Internal Audit Department.

    Works well under pressure, excellent time management and organization skills
