    Description

    The Senior Manager of Freight Trading, reporting to the Vice President of Operations & Risk Management, is responsible and accountable for the management of relationships with carriers, active participation of freight rate negotiations with carriers and optimization of margins and cost efficiencies. This role plays a key part in identifying new business opportunities and risk mitigation, including ensuring optimal rates, capacity commitments and managing large claims and disputes.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Collaborate with Executive Management to:
      • Build and maintain key external relationships with carriers and other supply chain partners.
      • Develop and refine the strategy for the Rates Department in alignment with company objectives.
    • Directly handle the negotiation of freight rates:
      • Handle the negotiation and renewal of contracts with carriers ensuring competitive rates that sustain profitability and maintain sufficient capacity.
      • Actively pursue opportunities for added rate/margin improvement through effective negotiation and relationship management.
    • Identify and capitalize on new business opportunities:
      • Seek out and develop relationships with potential large-scale customers and/or vendors.
      • Analyze patterns of shipments to identify new areas of growth and efficiency.
      • Optimize the positioning of containers to ensure contract compliance, maximize profitability and meet customer needs.
    • Risk Mitigation:
      • Work proactively to ensure capacity commitments are met and service levels are maintained.
      • Support management to resolve large claims and disputes with carriers, negotiating favorable resolutions while maintaining key relationships.
    Minimum Qualifications:
    • Bachelor's degree in Business, Logistics, Supply Chain Management or related field preferred
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in direct freight rate negotiations to include international trade, ocean, import/export, or trucking logistics, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
