    Provides Speech-Language evaluation, treatment, teaching, and consultation to the pediatric patient and the occasional adult patient in the outpatient and inpatient settings. Serves as a flexible clinician providing coverage to both the inpatient and outpatient settings related to staff absences, census fluctuations, and/or departmental growth. The float clinician maintains proficiency across both inpatient and outpatient environments to ensure seamless, high-quality service wherever assigned, and assists with departmental tasks or projects as directed by the manager or director during periods of low clinical activity.
    PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Demonstrates proficiency in treatment techniques of speech-language pathology for the pediatric patient
    • Adapts quickly to varying clinical environments (inpatient and outpatient) and demonstrates flexibility in scheduling, caseload management, and team collaboration based on program priorities
    • Provides clinical coverage across multiple program areas to ensure continuity of care during staff absences, census fluctuations, and department growth
    • Administers tests and applies evaluation techniques to determine functional status and identify therapy needs
    • Analyzes evaluation results and designs a therapy program to meet needs of patient and family, incorporating factors of child's developmental and medical history, social environment and educational placement.
    • Demonstrates knowledge of normal and abnormal development for patient care and safety for the pediatric population.
    • Demonstrates knowledge of normal and abnormal processes of communication and oral motor function.
    • Implements an individualized therapy plan of care. Instructs patient and/or caregivers and support personnel, as appropriate, for carryover of therapeutic activities
    • Evaluates need for communication devices, assistive technologies, and adaptive feeding equipment. Instructs patient and/or caregivers and support personnel in use and care of assistive devices and equipment
    • Evaluates and reports patient progress to treatment team, caregiver(s) and supervisor as necessary. Effectively communicates with other members of the Franciscan Children's care team and outside providers as appropriate and necessary, to ensure comprehensive interdisciplinary care.
    • Participates in discharge planning, including coordination of services with other providers and caregiver(s)
    • Adheres to department documentation guidelines
    • Participates in department quality improvement initiatives
    • Maintains professional knowledge which may include attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, participating in continuing educational opportunities and/or membership in ASHA
    • Designs and teaches home program and determines need for any adaptation to home environment
    • Successfully completes hospital and department specific orientation and ongoing mandatory educational and regulatory requirements
    • Engages in professional development opportunities to maintain current knowledge in the field.
    • Other essential duties may be assigned as necessary to the operation of the department
    • Hours meet the needs of the department
    • Assigned program(s) meet the needs of the department and may vary based on departmental need
    • Provides clinical supervision to graduate students, clinical fellows, and other staff members as requested by the supervisor or director. Acts as a resource in area of expertise.
