    Function

    The Health Services Administrator is a licensed nurse, RN preferred, who supervises all medical personnel and ensures the care of all inmates incarcerated. Performs duties under the direct supervision of the Director of Operations and is accountable for use of delegated authority. Pursuant to § of the Code of Virginia incumbent is appointed at-will and serves at the pleasure of the Sheriff.

    • Demonstrates a positive attitude and progressive actions through the display of professionalism, courtesy and appropriate tact and discretion in all interactions with other employees and with the public
    • Manages the healthcare delivery system and coordinates with the other functions within the office
    • Develops and manages the facility budget and operational plan
    • Interviews and selects independent contractors, supervisors and other personnel as needed
    • Ensures orientation of new medical services personnel
    • Ensures compliance with ACA, NCCHC, CALEA, PREA, and DOC standards including Hampton Sheriff's Office policies and procedures
    • Assists with emergency care and responses as qualified.
    • Meets regularly with the Undersheriff and Director of Operations, or designee, as the liaison of services within the office
    • Follows and enforces security regulations for keys, sharps and controlled medications
    • Reviews sharp inventory, CQI, off-site specialty form
    • Reviews all medical logs to ensure completeness
    • Directs the day-to-day activities of the assigned staff
    • Coordinates with the Undersheriff, Human Resources and Director of Operations, the hiring and/or termination of contract employees and independent contractors
    • Maintains membership on the M.A.C. and provides the administrative support for its activities
    • Implements annual in-service training program.
    • Supervises scheduling of all medical personnel, providing a weekly copy of the schedule to the Director of Operations.
    • Ensures assistance is provided to the Medical Director
    • Conducts, documents and maintains all required annual reports (i.e. Mental Health Report, Man-Down, etc.)
    • Meets with all medical staff on a monthly basis and ensure each staff member receives a copy of the meeting minutes
    • Ensures medical charts are properly constructed with all the required signatures
    • Ensures that all medical staff are documenting the charts in accordance with HSO protocol, policies and procedures
    • Coordinates the annual health services planning process
    • Communicates with other jurisdictions and the community pertaining to the transfer of an inmate/patient and /or medical status of the inmate/patient
    • Communicates with the Director of Operations daily
    • Adheres to all policies, procedures, guidelines and directives of the office on an ongoing basis
    • Be dependable and meets acceptable attendance requirements at all times
    • Protects confidential information by preventing unauthorized release, both verbal and/or writing
    • Disseminates information as it is given by the Department's Administration
    • Follows all Federal, State and Local laws
    Qualifications
    • Experience in a primary care specialty with administrative experience in corrections and/or managed health care delivery.
    • Ability to read and comprehend laws, ordinances and orders
