    Description

    The DarkStar Group is seeking a Full-Stack Developer with a TS/SCI + Poly clearance (applicable to this customer) to join one of our top projects in McLean, VA.

    Below is an overview of the project, as well as information on our company, our benefits, and our $25,000 referral program.

    THE PROJECT The DarkStar Group's team integrates hundreds of data sources into a Geospatial Data Analysis platform used throughout the Intelligence Community.

    Their tool and dataset is widely-recognized as the leading platform for geospatial analysis, touching nearly every type of mission. Top government officials use analysis from this platform to make daily decisions that have global impact. The platform is constructed of 3rd party tools and custom applications, and new data sources are constantly being added.

    The customer is excellent to work with, and there is a healthy mix of customer-driven requirements and team-driven ideas / innovation: engineers typically have freedom in choosing how to do things and which technologies to utilize.

    Customer leadership also helps drive innovation and has created a close, collaborative idea exchange between staffers and contractors. Our Team Lead has said "this is simply the best group of people I've worked with".

    Despite this platform being widely used, there is a huge amount of brand new work adding new capabilities and data sources, as well as migrating more and more of the subsystems to AWS.

    There are recurring opportunities on this team for Analytic / BigData Software Developers, Full Stack Software Engineers, Web Application Developers, Java Developers, JavaScript Developers, Python Developers, Geospatial (GIS) Developers, ETL Developers, Data Scientists, Data Engineers, Data Analysts, AWS Engineers, DevOps Engineers, Cloud Migration Experts, and Geospatial Systems Engineers.

    Work on this program takes place in the McLean, VA area (we cannot support remote work) and requires a TS/SCI + Poly clearance (acceptable by this customer).

    THE ROLE
    Provide Full-Stack Developers for re-architecting and modernizing the customer's mission-focused operational system. This will include their web application, backend database and ingest capability for existing and new data providers.

    The majority of the legacy code is written in Java and will need to be updated, improved or rewritten in Python as we modernize and migrate to the cloud.


    Day-to-day responsibilities include:

    • Modify java-based applications and scripts to support new requirements
    • Evaluate and migrate legacy Java code to Python for backend processes
    • Develop and integrate new capabilities in a Java-based web application, as well as develop a custom interface to compile and display metrics for the system and its users
    • Collaborate with system stakeholders to identify new capabilities and development timeline for implementation, triage issues and quickly develop system patches to minimize impact to customer workflows
    • Submit monthly written summary reports of accomplishments
    Required Skills * Willing to work onsite in Government customer sites in Northern Virgina


    • Accepting the following levels:
    • Mid: Typically requires a minimum of 3-7 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 1-5 years and a Master's degree; or a PhD without experience; or equivalent work experience
    • Senior: Typically requires a minimum of 8-12 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 6-8 years and a Master's degree; or a PhD with 3-5 years experience; or equivalent experience
    • Minimum 2 years of experience with software developmentDesired Skills
    • Programming experience with Java and Python programming
    • Experience with Postgres SQL
    • Familiarity building front-end user interfaces using JavaScript
    • Familiarity building REST APIs with a back-end framework such as Django or Flask
    • Functional knowledge using version control with Git
    • Functional knowledge of various build tools (e.g., webpack, gradle, maven)
    • Experience with building containerized microservices and web applications with Docker and Kubernetes
    • Experience configuring and managing Elastic Stack components to include configuring and managing an Elasticsearch cluster, installing and configuring Logstash and other Beats data providers, and building visualizations and dashboards in Kibana.
    • Understanding of Geospatial concepts and exposure to GIS technologies
    • Understanding of imagery data, metadata ingest, processing, storage, and retrieval
    • Understanding of Full Motion Video (FMV), metadata ingest, storage and display
    • Experience building CI/CD pipelines with Jenkins or GitLab
    • Experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS) and its core services (i.e., EC2, S3, SQS)
