PSE Finance - Proposal Assistance
Consultant/Temp Support
Initial 3-6 months

This role supports researchers as they develop and submit funding proposals. Argonne derives a substantial fraction of its revenue as a result of funding opportunities that are published by government agencies. Responding to a funding opportunity typically requires preparing a proposal that has substantial non-technical components. Researchers benefit from support to determine proposal content requirements and to collect and compile material that meets these requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

• Review request for proposal (RFP) and funding opportunity announcement (FOA) documents from funding agencies and, in coordination with Argonne's Sponsored Research Office, determine if Argonne is eligible to submit a proposal.
• Prepare list of requirements stated in the RFP or FOA and compile into compliance matrix suitable for use as tool for proposal preparation management.
• Work with principal investigator and other proposal authors to collect and compile supporting information for the proposal, including development and maintenance of templates for common elements (such as data management plans and major facility descriptions).
• Formatting/producing compliant proposal documents, per the requirements specified in the solicitation instructions and evaluation criteria.
• Develop document templates and other documentation associated with the proposal development process.
• Proofread proposals for spelling, usage, typographical, and grammatical errors.
• Work with Argonne finance staff to incorporate budget into proposal.

Position Requirements:

• Working knowledge of budget management, financial analysis, financial modeling, and accounting principles.
• Strong organizational skills, ingenuity, creativity, and the ability to solve problems independently.
• Knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel and Access including database management.

• High level of customer service and a mission driven mindset.
• Considerable skill in understanding and following detailed and complex processes and associated policies and government regulations.
• Strong analytical skills including the ability to synthesize data, draw conclusions, and reach satisfactory resolution of complex financial situations.
• Extensive experience and skill working with data systems and technology.
• Skill in setting work priorities, handling multiple assignments for multiple people, and time management.
