    POSITION SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES Works to support the patient care and outreach objectives of the Women's Health, Pediatric and Trauma service lines in cooperation with department staff, the Community Health and Prevention Division and Trauma System Office.

    Delivers injury prevention programs, intervention activities and health education to individuals and the community.

    The Injury Prevention Health Educator is responsible for conveying basic safety information on many topics including, but not limited to, burn prevention, home safety, fall prevention, motor vehicle safety, pedestrian safety, sports and recreational safety and violence prevention.

    Implements planned injury prevention initiatives employing health education methods and techniques that are developmentally appropriate and culturally sensitive in order to achieve program objectives.

    All functions and behaviors are applicable to clinical and community settings.

    Bachelors' degree in the social sciences, public health, allied health, education or related field with experience in community outreach, health promotion, health education and/or injury prevention is required.

    Two (2) years' experience in an in-patient, ambulatory or community health agency setting is preferred. Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred.
    A valid Texas State DL operator's license "Class C" and must maintain a clean Motor Vehicle Record. Community Health Worker certification or Certified Health Education Specialist status is preferred. Must be willing to obtain CPR and Child Passenger Safety Technician certification within 6 months of hire.
