NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue is America's oldest public hospital, established in 1736.

Affiliated with the NYU School of Medicine, the 844-bed hospital is a major referral center for highly complex cases, with its 6,000 employees including highly skilled, interdisciplinary clinical staff.

It sees more than 110,000 emergency room visits and 700,000 outpatient visits annually. Bellevue is an academic medical institution of international renown. We have served as an incubator for major innovations in public health, medical science, and medical education.

Bellevue is a Level I Trauma Center delivering around-the-clock care in adult, pediatric, psychiatric and pediatric psychiatric emergencies as well as in the nationally-designated categories of cardiology, neurology, toxicology, and neonatology.

In addition to providing comprehensive inpatient and outpatient state-of-the-art care Bellevue is a city-wide medical specialty referral source.

Bellevue's clinical centers of excellence include:

Emergency Medicine and Trauma Care; Cardiovascular Services; Designated Regional Perinatal Center and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (ICU); Comprehensive Children's Psychiatric Emergency Program; and Cancer Services.

Duties & Responsibilities


Purpose of Position:


This class of positions encompasses supervisory or administrative work of varying degrees of difficulty and with varying degrees of latitude for independent initiative and judgment in the delivery of health program and support services.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Under general supervision with moderate latitude for independent initiative and judgment, performs some of the following functions:


Consults with medical and professional staff of other departments and staff from associated health care fields to plan and coordinate joint patient and management objectives.

Acts as a liaison between the Department of Medical Services and other administrative divisions.
Provides administrative supervision for a health service program.
Plans, develops, and may conduct training programs to maintain proficiency of staff and use of new equipment and methods.
Allocates staff on basis of workload, space, and available equipment.

May supervise studies related to the service/program and analyzes modifications and development of systems and procedures to improve departmental operations.

Makes recommendations and implements.

Coordinates research projects and conducts special studies to evaluate various rehabilitative programs in the department and within the overall objective of the department.

Directs the processing of orders for requisitioning of equipment, prosthetic appliances, and medical supplies for patients.

As required, consults with medical, nursing and other staff involved in treatment to clarify ambiguities and secure documentation of the records and to secure necessary and timely certification and verification.

May analyze patient records with clinical staff to determine whether they document that the length of stay and medical services rendered are consistent with reimbursement formulas, completing necessary forms.

Ensures that compliance policies and procedures current and followed.
Supervises the office administration and office record keeping activities of the department.
Is responsible for employee supervision, performance and employee development of assigned personnel in areas of responsibility and accountability.
Supervises the preparation and publication of operational manuals and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree from an accredited college or university in Public Health, Public Administration, Business Administration, Social Work, Psychology or Rehabilitation Counseling; and one (1) year of full-time experience in medically-oriented health care and medical support systems environment; or
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in disciplines listed in "1" above; and two(2)years of full-time experience in medically-oriented health care and medical support systems environment; or

A satisfactory equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience, in which each year of relevant training and/or experience can be substituted for 30 semester credits from an accredited college or university.

However, all applicants must at least have a Bachelor's degree or its educational equivalent.
