    Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit:

    PlayMakers Repertory Company (PRC) is the premier professional theatre company of North Carolina, serving as a working laboratory for the Department of Dramatic Art and as a nationally recognized cultural destination for UNC and the entire southeast region. PlayMakers Repertory Company strives to produce entertaining, relevant, and courageous work that tells stories from and for a multiplicity of perspectives and creates transformational impact in our immediate and extended communities.

    PRC manages the planning and oversight of a 3.1 million dollar professional and educational theatre operation. This unit has a staff of about 120 which includes approximately 27 employees, 60 independent contractors, 30 workstudy students and up to 100 volunteers. Approximately 16 of these employees are seasonal employees, requiring new contracts and university personnel paperwork for each season. This unit is responsible for creating significant professional artistic programming, student and community engagement activities and attendant fundraising endeavors. The unit functions as a program of the Department of Dramatic Art. Employees of the unit are essentially employees of the department and the budget of the unit falls under the budget of the department

    Position Summary:

    This position serves as support to the Director of Marketing and Sales as well as provide significant creative development of marketing strategies for the Theatre, season, production or events. The Senior Public Relations Officer for PlayMakers will design, schedule and produce and produce marketing emails, communications, and materials for both season/subscription campaigns as well as single ticket promotions per the marketing plan created in collaboration with the Director of Sales and Marketing. The Senior Public Relations Officer will be project manager for Open House and other special marketing events, coordinating and collaborating across all departments in the organization.

    The Senior Public Relations Officer is also responsible for the design and production of internal graphics, videos and animations used to promote the theatre, season, or production to patron including but not limited to the production ads, emails, social media and web. This individual will also assist with the writing and editing of marketing materials; including but not limited to the descriptions of performance pieces, pricing charts and texts in brochures/playbills, ads, emails, social media and web. The Senior Public Relations Officer will also assist with coordinating press coverage, the implementation of the seasonal advertising plans, advertising arrangements with press and businesses in the community, organizing exposure to company events, manage various marketing campaigns, and handle other needs involving company and departmental exposure.

    Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

    Bachelor's degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

    Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

    Prior experience with theatre marketing, arts administration, social media and sales. This position requires the ability to successfully balance competing priorities, strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills, coordination and organizational skills, critical thinking and interpretive skills. Familiarity with web design and databases. Strong computer skills are essential.

    Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

    Preferred candidate would have an ability to work well with a diverse and varied artistic and administrative staff while also having a strong working knowledge of theater marketing as well as a general knowledge of production, marketing, and community outreach in theater. Previous experience working in higher education preferred.
