    This Opportunity

    WSP is currently initiating a search for an Early Career Water Resources Scientist to support our California District. The candidate may sit in any of the following California offices: including Oakland, Petaluma, Roseville, Rancho Cordova, or San Diego. Be involved in projects with our Earth & Environment Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client's objectives and solves their challenges.

    In this role you will take part in providing local technical environmental planning assistance to minimize the environmental impacts of commercial, industrial, utility, transmission, development, infrastructure, construction, pipeline, and/or transportation related projects. Tasks may include providing support to technical staff and project managers on permitting, site and impact assessment, restoration, land use management plans, public involvement, and environmental regulatory compliance assignments. Generates accurate and concise documentation, ensuring that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards.

    Your Impact

  • Conduct BMP inspections at commercial, industrial, and other sites.
  • Identify areas of a facility contributing pollutants to the storm drain system.
  • Evaluate effectiveness of pollutant control measures.
  • Assist with priority development project (PDP) tracking and input into client database.
  • Prepare inspection reports to communicate inspection findings.
  • Assist in project coordination of schedules, cost-estimates, and equipment.
  • Assist with reviewing documentation for BMPs, including responding to the public.
  • Apply excellent communication skills with clients and the public.
  • Assist with storm water sampling as needed
  • Complete training on assigned tasks.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
  • Who You Are

    Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, Natural Resource Management, or a related life sciences field.
  • 0 to 1 year of experience working as an environmental scientist and completing environmental surveys, fieldwork, habitat and impact assessments, and/or construction monitoring.
  • Willing to obtain professional stormwater licensure (Qualified SWPPP Practitioner, QSP)
  • Must successfully complete and pass WSP's Motor Vehicle screening.
  • Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a scientific and non-scientific audience.
  • Maintain flexibility with respect to assigned tasks due to changing deadlines, deliverables, and priorities.
  • Determined, thorough, and organized
  • Positive, team-oriented, and self-motivated
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office 365
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

    Compensation:
    Expected Salary (all locations): $48,600 - $80,300

    WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant's sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
