    Description:

    • Chemistry lab technicians assist chemists in their lab work.
    • As time progresses, lab technicians are completing a greater number of tasks that previously would have been performed by highly trained chemists.
    • Technicians are responsible for monitoring chemical processes and testing products as part of quality assurance.
    • Under the supervision of chemists and other team members, they perform repetitive lab activities, such as setting up lab equipment and preparing chemical solutions.
    • They also conduct tests, interpret and analyze data, compile results, prepare reports, and present their conclusions.
    • Work on projects in the applications lab to evaluate dispersions, additives, and/or pigments in paint or colorant formulations to support internal and external customers as well as support product volume growth.
    • Work with Chemists, Technical Specialists and other lab members to complete application testing and generate accurate data in a timely manner.
    • Acquire a working knowledge of formulation practices and of application test methods typical for the architectural coatings industries.
    • Perform lab activities required to maintain ISO, 5S, and safety compliance.
    • Follow all policies and procedures in the performance of job activities.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in a chemistry related field and 1+ years practical laboratory experience; OR
    • Associate's degree in a chemistry related field and 3+ years practical laboratory experience in a chemical related field; OR
    • High School Diploma and 5+ years practical laboratory experience in a chemical related field
    • Able to perform experiments following instructions set by the project requestor
    • Able to make keen observations and be cognizant of opportunities
    • Able to adjust experimentation and problem solve as needed
    • Must be able to record and organize data
    • Able to manage multiple projects at once
    • Able to report results in a coherent and understandable manner
    • Good attention to detail, excellent time management, experience with coatings or color matching would be preferable.
    • Intermediate computer skills and proficiency with MS Outlook, MS Word and MS Excel.

    Technical Certification Bonus: Synectics is pleased to award its employees a bonus of up to $500 for an approved professional certification. In determining the bonus amount, Synectics will consider the cost of the test(s) for any certification relating to your current position, achieved during your employment with us. Only one Certification Bonus per calendar year may be awarded per employee. Only current, active employees will be eligible to receive this bonus. It will be awarded 90 days after the Synectics office has received documentation confirming the successful completion of the certification.
