    POSITION SUMMARY:

    The Pharmacy Technician II assists Pharmacists in pharmaceutical preparation, distribution and record keeping functions of the delivery of pharmaceutical supplies to patients of all ages in accordance with department policies and procedures.# Emphasis is placed on ability to complete complicated intravenous medication preparation autonomously with a Pharmacist review.

    # EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

    High School diploma or GED equivalent.# Must have a CT Pharmacy Technician License or be license eligible and be Pharmacy Technician Certification Board Certified, or complete certification within 12 months of employment Or; If enrolled in a university pharmacy program, must have a CT Pharmacy Intern Registration or complete registration within 12 months of employment.

    ## EXPERIENCE:

    IV Admixture experience is desirable but not required. At least one year of previous Pharmacy Technician experience is required.

    # COMPETENCIES:

    Must have computer skills and keyboard familiarity for work in the Meditech system

    # Job-Specific Competency 1.##### Accurately interprets and enters IV medication orders into the computer for review by the pharmacist.

    2.##### Accurately and at prescribed times, prepares and organizes all paperwork needed to complete IV admixtures required for the day.

    3.##### Accurately and aseptically reconstitutes medications to prepare IV admixtures, IV piggy-backs, syringes and intermittent infusions for review by the pharmacist.# Adds various drugs and electrolytes to IV fluids to prepare hyperalimentations.

    4.##### Accurately and aseptically prepares IV antineoplastic agents in vertical laminar flow hood for review by the pharmacist. 5.##### Posts charges into the computer system from the medication administration records and other charge documents.

    6.##### Accurately and at prescribed times, filling unit-dose cassettes and dispensing machine lists with medications for delivery.## Accurately and at prescribed times, fills and exchanges floor requests and restocks medication storage areas.

    7.##### Accurately and at prescribed times, prepares patient specific labeled medications including eye meds, employee prescriptions, and kit medications.

    8.##### Politely answers calls and accepts requests for replacement of missing medication and requests for refills of patient#s medication from nursing units.# Completes and communicates these requests to the Pharmacist.

    9.##### Accurately and consistently uses appropriate mechanism to pharmacist and ordering personnel of needed items.# This includes identifying missing medications for cart fill and re-orders from the wholesaler.

    10.# Accurately re-packages correct quantity of medications using appropriate labeling and appropriate standards.

    11.# Accurately prepares and delivers narcotic orders while keeping physical count recorded accurately.# Completes all associated narcotic documentation 12.# Performs nursing station inspections according to policy.

    13.# Utilizes time in most effective and productive manner and completes tasks at the prescribed time. 14.# Completes required continuous training and education, including department specific requirements. 15.# Keeps work area, mailbox, and Pharmacy clean and uncluttered. #
