Position Overview:
The Coding Manager oversees day-to-day coding operations primarily for mid‑range clients located around the U.S. and manages productivity, staffing, SLAs, and workflow execution. This role ensures that coding teams meet performance expectations, follow compliance guidelines, and maintain timely and accurate coding output. The Coding Manager is responsible for people leadership and direct oversight of the Coding Supervisor.
Essential Functions:
- Manages the daily coding workflow, queues, deadlines, and coding productivity.
- Ensures consistent performance across all mid-range client accounts.
- Create, document, and maintain standard operating procedures and job aids for all processes related to coding practices
- Manages Coding Supervisor and coding staff with emphasis on training, team building, and performance improvement
- Participates in ongoing skills development and implements corrective action plans as necessary.
- Acts as the primary point of contact for mid-size clients, supporting operational updates, routine reporting, and issue resolution.
- Escalates complex issues to the EVP, Client Operations when needed.
- Ability and experience conducting physician.
- Full revenue cycle experience and understanding of clinical and billing systems
- Other assigned duties/tasks
Skills and Experience:
- Must have an AAPC CPC certification for the last 3 years.
- BS/BA In Healthcare or equivalent degree
- Knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, and medical terminology
- 7-10 years overseeing a coding department
- Athena experience required
- Experience working in a medical billing environment where compliance with protected health information and HIPAA compliance is strongly enforced.
- Experience of a minimum of 7+ years in medical coding
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Highly organized with attention to detail
- Clinical skills to evaluate appropriate Medical Record Coding
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams
Work environment:
- A standard business environment exists with moderate noise levels.
- Ability to lift and move approximately thirty (30) pounds non-routinely.
- Ability to sit for extended periods.
- Long periods of computer usage
- Handling – seizing, holding, grasping, and fingering of objects, tools, and controls
- Vision – close vision
- Hearing- the ability to receive detailed information through oral and telephonic communication
