    POSITIONSUMMARY:


    The Piano Technician is responsible for the repair and maintenance of 70+pianos located in the Mary Pappert School of Music.

    In addition to that, maintenance and repairof pianos located throughout the Duquesne University campus, including in theChapel, Student Union Ballroom, Genesius Theater, School of Medicine and thePower Center Ballroom.


    DUTIESAND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Maintains tuning of piano inventory


    Must be available for pre-eventtunings for performances (including those given by guest artists), studentrecitals (when requested), masterclasses, and recordings, in coordination withthe MPSOM Manager of Academic Support.

    Work will be necessary on nights andweekends

    Regulate and voice pianos

    Performs repair work on pianos andpiano benches, and provides information to Manager of Academic Support forordering materials needed for these repairs

    Develops, oversees, and enforcespolicies and procedures for student use of pianos

    Traveling when necessary for schoolevents

    Completes other duties as assigned


    REQUIREMENTS:

    Minimum qualifications:

    Experience working inboth the private and public sector is required.

    Experience tuning concert grand pianos for performance isrequired.

    1-3 years of work related experience.

    Valid driver's license in good standing.


    Preferredqualifications:

    Bachelor's degree in Music from an accredited institution.

    Experience tuning for adealer, especially a Steinway dealership, is preferred

    RegisteredPiano Technician (Piano Technicians Guild) preferred within 2 yearsof hire.


    Alternately, the successful candidate may possess any equivalent combination ofexperience and training, which provides the knowledge, skills and abilitiesrequired to perform the essential job functions.


    This includes, but is notlimited to, the following:
    Candidatemust possess excellent tuning, regulating and voicing skills for working on ourvariety of pianos, from concert grands to uprights. Must have excellent communication skills tocollaborate with a diverse population of musicians, facilities manager andadministration. Must be a self-starter,and a highly organized individual. To possess the ability to rebuild grandpianos action is a preferred skill for the ideal candidate.

    Ability to problem solve and prioritize isessential to this position.

    The job should be completed on site, and it ispreferred if no outside workshop is subcontracted for additional repairs.

    The candidate must have their own tool set.
