    POSITION SUMMARY

    The Clinical Coordinator is staff administrative position that works in close collaboration with the faculty practicum coordinator to ensure effective coordination and oversight of all clinical components within the nursing curriculum.

    They will be motivated, self-directed, highly organized, collaborative and student centered.

    The Clinical Coordinator will also be able to foster academic excellence in accordance with the philosophy and objectives of the University and the nursing faculty and help maintain accreditation.

    This role is central to supporting clinical education and compliance for students and clinical faculty.

    Responsibilities:
    Clinical placements
    o Establishes working relationships with clinical sites.
    o Determines the number of appropriate clinical placements for each practicum experience.

    o Collaborates with the Faculty Practicum Coordinator for additions or changes to clinical requirements, including but not limited to the scheduled release of student needs to MOKAN, Clinical Student, and My Clinical Experience.

    o Contact non-MOKAN sites as needed for additional clinical experiences. (schools, correctional facilities, ASANA, home health and hospice, etc.)
    o Attend MOKAN meetings and Clinical Orientation Manual (COM) meetings.
    Clinical Faculty
    o Review/confirm hours needed for adjunct hiring/pay (in collaboration with the Director of Nursing and Health Science).
    o Participate in the recruitment of clinical adjunct faculty needed.

    o Collaborate with the Practicum Faculty Coordinator to provide orientation to all clinical adjunct faculty at the beginning of each semester related to course expectations, documentation, and due dates.

    This will include an orientation to concepts-based curriculum expectations and grading concept maps.
    Clinical schedules

    o Provide appropriate dates to staff and the Director of Nursing and Health Science to assist in creating contracts and planning calendar for each semester (including orientation of faculty; orientation of students at Avila and faculties; beginning and end dates of clinical experiences at the sites; and any post clinical meeting needs).

    o Assists the Faculty Practicum Coordinator in the placement of students in clinical groups.
    Student Orientation
    o Plan and provide practicum orientation to all students at the beginning of each
    o semester.
    o Confirm that paperwork is being completed on a consistent and timely manner
    o students and faculty.
    Student learning
    o Assist with setting up Canvas courses for Introduction to Practicum, Practicum 1, Practicum 2, and Practicum 3.

    o Provide information to the NU 489 course coordinator that is relevant to the clinical component of the Capstone course.

    o Together with the Faculty Practicum Coordinator, assesses the clinical learning environment, including visits to all clinical sites on a regular basis to solicit feedback from faculty and students related to the course.

    o Notify the Faculty Practicum Coordinator of student and site issues relating to clinical courses.
    o Bring student issues to the Faculty Practicum Coordinator.

    Issues may include but are not limited to non-compliance with clinical requirements or clinical policies, students not-progressing appropriately, or unprofessionalism in the clinical setting.

    o Collaborate with the Faculty Practicum Coordinator when planning clinical sites for the next academic year. This occurs annually in February.
    o Clinical Student / My Clinical Experience
    Ensure that each student is oriented to these documentation services.
    Approve or reject student and Clinical Instructor clinical documentation. submissions
    Communicate to students and Clinical Instructor when a documentation submission is rejected.

    Qualifications:
    Bachelor's degree in nursing required; Master's degree is preferred.
    Minimum of 5 years clinical experience; recent experience preferred.
    Current undisciplined nursing license in Kansas and Missouri (or multistate) required.
    Teaching experience is preferred, preferably in baccalaureate education.
    American Heart Association (AHA) BLS certification required
    AHA BLS instructor certification preferred.
    Ability to work effectively with others in a wide variety of settings.
    Multilingual skills highly preferred.
    Excellent communication, interpersonal, and multitasking abilities.
    A commitment to maintaining confidentiality and integrity in all aspects of the role.
