    Description

    Job Summary

    The Psychiatrist is responsible for evaluating and treating psychiatric patients in the hospital or clinic setting. They will also supervise a multidisciplinary team, providing psychiatric consultations to medical and surgical patients and conducting Emergency Room evaluations, treatment, and referrals as assigned.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Evaluate and treat psychiatric patients in various settings.
    • Supervise the treatment of patients on the psychiatry service, working with a multidisciplinary team.
    • Provide psychiatric consultations to medical and surgical patients.
    • Conduct Emergency Room evaluations, treatment, and referrals as needed.

    Qualifications

    Education

    1. Doctor of Medicine from an ACGME-approved medical school.
    2. Completion of approved internship and residency in Psychiatry.
    3. Meeting the educational pre-requisites for certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.

    Licenses and Certifications

    • N.Y. State License to practice Medicine and Surgery.
    • Drug Enforcement Agency License.

    Experience and Skills

    1. Expertise in the differential diagnosis and somatic and psychological treatment of psychiatric disorders.
    2. Good clinical judgment, personal integrity, professional responsibility, and tact.
    3. Ability to establish and maintain rapport with emotionally disturbed patients.
    4. Ability to integrate the efforts of various disciplines, including psychiatry, social work, nursing, psychology, and activities therapy.
    5. Must have admitting privileges granted by the Medical Board of St. Barnabas and maintain these privileges.
