    POSITION SUMMARY

    Reporting to the Vice President and Dean of the College, the Senior Fellow will facilitate the development of organizational, collaborative, and logistical infrastructure to launch and sustain Pomona's vision for internationalization and global learning consistent with the Global Pomona Project (GPP) goals. This position will shepherd the GPP proposals into action and create the required cross-campus connections and programs. This position will work closely with the Associate Dean for Curriculum and International Initiatives.

    The Senior Fellow position is a short-term (~24 months) engagement intended to lay the groundwork for Pomona's next phase of global work to build synergies across these commitments and among the many entities that contribute to global learning at Pomona. The Senior Fellow will plan, deliver, and oversee new international programs and prepare for a more connected global future.

    With a global-local focus and an eye toward multidisciplinary learning, the charge of this position would be to:

  • Facilitate the campus arrangements and structures needed to augment and sustain global learning, as outlined in the .
  • Advise on the development of innovative programming and partnerships.
  • Convene cross-campus conversations.
  • Work with the Global Pomona Committee, the Associate Dean for Curriculum and International Initiatives, and the Senior Leadership to determine the next iteration of leadership and administrative structures supporting global learning and engagement.
  • Campus Arrangements and Structures

    The Senior Fellow will identify campus arrangements and structures needed to work efficiently and effectively toward Pomona's aims for global learning. These may include mechanisms for making international activities more visible, communicating, and connecting across functional areas and initiatives, and coordinating complex logistics and risk management strategies to support our work on global initiatives.

    Innovative Programming and Partnerships

    The Senior Fellow will make strategic recommendations for designing and implementing programming for Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL), faculty and staff development, external partnerships, etc.

    Cross-Campus Conversations

    The Senior Fellow will endeavor to work with dedicated international offices and groups and any initiative at Pomona College that engages with experiential learning and global-local initiatives.

    Leadership and Administrative Structures

    The Senior Fellow will help guide the College toward an appropriate leadership structure that promotes interconnectedness in global learning and consistent and efficient support for new and existing programming in this area. The Global Pomona Project has identified several infrastructural areas needing attention, including risk management and logistical support. This position should help identify specific staffing needs and opportunities for increased efficiencies or relevant staff development opportunities.

    The Senior Fellow on Internationalization will

  • Lead Pomona College's efforts in international strategic planning, visioning, and implementation.
  • Provide leadership and implementation in the development and execution of comprehensive global engagement plans, including international partnerships and visiting scholars.
  • Collaborate with relevant college offices related to international program matters.
  • Identify trends in and support for international student and scholar recruiting, retention, and success.
  • Oversee staff and personnel matters, including recruitment, evaluation, supervision, and ongoing professional development to ensure project prioritization and cross-training to enhance office efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Maintain ongoing communications with current and new international partners related to program maintenance and program expansion/contraction.
  • Work with the Associate Dean for Curriculum and International Initiatives and the Senior Leadership to cultivate new partnerships and increase the breadth and visibility of Pomona College's international initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with federal regulations through the Department of Homeland Security, including supervision of visa processing and record-keeping.
  • Manage budget and planning.
  • REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ph.D. or Master's degree from an accredited institution.
  • At least 3-5 years of commensurate and relevant work experience and progressive leadership experience directly focused on growing international initiatives.
  • Track record of experience streamlining international program operations through technology, managing staff, and capitalizing on cost-effective recruitment tools.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of international issues and trends in higher education, including international education and federal regulations supporting international student and scholar success.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of international education, administrative principles, and practices relevant to program design and development of international programs and services, budget management, and staff supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively on program and policy development with faculty, staff, and administrators.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain domestic and international education partnerships.
  • Ability to travel domestically and abroad when necessary and to capitalize on virtual marketing and recruitment efforts wherever possible.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Strong communication and diplomatic skills.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills to promote collaboration and teamwork.
  • Demonstrated cultural sensitivity and diplomacy in intercultural and international college/university settings.

  • The successful candidate must have extensive experience guiding institutions of our nature through internationalization. This individual will work strategically and have enough experience in internationalization in higher education to advise on the logistical aspects of this work. The incumbent should be able to work collegially with faculty, administration, staff, and students and leverage their experience to help Pomona College navigate critical challenges and opportunities in advancing this work.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience at an academic institution is preferred.
  • Experience fostering and maintaining relationships and working with internal stakeholders (e.g., Alumni Relations, Academic and Student Affairs, etc.) and external stakeholders (e.g., foreign colleges and universities or similar organizations).
  • Experience with immigration and visa processes for faculty, staff, and students.
  • Experience with global learning (research, curriculum development, teaching).
  • Experience with risk management—i.e., identifying, assessing, and managing potential issues that could negatively affect the College's operations and financial performance.
  • Ability to motivate staff, foster collaboration, and actively engage diverse groups of constituents.

    ADDITIONAL POSITION DETAILS: Temporary, 24 months , Full-time, benefits eligible, exempt position. The salary range for this role is between $ 157,000-$170,000 annually. The hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday – Friday. Holidays, weekends, and evening work hours may be required. Travel domestically and abroad may be required. Regular hours may vary based on the needs of the College or division.
