    Title: Quality Assurance Technician

    Reports To: Quality Assurance Manager

    Location: North Andover, MA

    Department: Quality Assurance

    Full-time, Nonexempt

    Job Summary

    The Quality Assurance Technician ensures that incoming ingredients, work-in-process components, and finished products conform to company and customer requirements. The Quality Assurance Technician releases some incoming ingredients and all finished products and may place ingredients, packaging, or products on HOLD pending further evaluation.

    Schedules Available:

    • Monday - Friday: 4:00am - 12:30pm

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

    • Understand and follow all safety rules at all times.
    • Receive incoming bulk ingredients, ensuring proper receiving procedures are followed. Test bulk ingredients for compliance to specification requirements.
    • Collect samples and test selected incoming ingredients for compliance to specification requirements.
    • Ensure that all laboratory equipment including ovens, mixers, and other testing equipment are working properly. Notify quality management of any potential or actual issues.
    • Release ingredients based on compliance to specifications or other requirements.
    • Perform line checks on production lines in the Bakery and Frozen/Wet Departments to ensure all food safety and food quality parameters are met.
    • Perform quality checks on samples collected from the Bakery and Frozen/Wet Departments to ensure all performance and organoleptic parameters are met.
    • Collect samples and test each batch of Dry Department products to ensure all performance and organoleptic parameters are met.
    • Place non-conforming product on Hold pending further evaluation.
    • Collect samples, test ingredients, and finished products that have been placed on Hold or otherwise do not meet customer or company requirements.
    • Release products from each manufacturing department based on compliance to customer and company requirements.
    • Notify quality management as soon as possible of observed conditions, ingredients, or products that may not meet food safety, food quality or customer or company requirements. Make suggestions on how to address those concerns.
    • Complete all records accurately, legibly and on a timely basis.
    • Complete all electronic transactions accurately and on a timely basis.
    • Keep the laboratory equipment and environment neat, clean and orderly at all times.
    • Perform other duties as requested by the Quality Assurance Manager or Director of R&D and Quality Assurance.

    Physical & Environmental Requirements:

    • Ability to stand and walk on concrete floor for prolonged periods
    • Frequent bending, lifting and twisting for extended periods of time
    • Can lift up to 50 lbs.
    • Wear proper personal protective equipment when necessary (hair net, beard net, ear plugs, safety shoes, and uniform)

    Required Skills:

    • Laboratory or quality assurance background.
    • 1 to 2 years' baking experience.
    • Ability to use standard laboratory equipment such as refractomer, pH meter, ROTAP.
    • Basic math skills, computer skills coupled with strong organizational skills.
    • Ability to work with minimal supervision and complete tasks in a timely manner.
    • High school diploma or equivalent.
    • Must be flexible with schedule as the needs of the business dictate the work schedule.
