Job Summary

The Department of Chemistry is seeking a detail oriented accountant who will work closely with college and departmental senior accounting personnel to maintain and reconcile department personnel accounts.

This position has primary responsibility for payroll and accurate maintenance of personnel records but will also be involved with other accounting functions.

The College of Science at the University of Utah is a leading academic division dedicated to advancing scientific knowledge through innovative research, rigorous education, and community engagement.

Responsibilities

Responsible for new hire onboarding, payroll initiation, and I-9 processing.
Troubleshoots discrepancies and maintains accurate payroll records.
Responsible for MyTime timecard sign-off, transfers, and setup.
Verifies check advice and accurate/timely employee pay.
Works closely with faculty and accounting to ensure correct grant effort, expenditures, and distribution transfers.
Works closely with senior accounting personnel on other projects as requested.
Prepares ad-hoc reports on an as-needed basis.
Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field, plus one year related experience or equivalency (two years of related work experience can be substituted for one year of education) required.

A thorough understanding of general ledger accounting practices, cost analysis and accounting principles, as well as demonstrated analytical, problem solving, human relations and effective communication skills also required.

Knowledge of PeopleSoft or Access databases may be preferred in some areas.

Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.

Preferences

Experience in University accounting preferred.
Organized and able to meet deadlines.
Ability to work independently and use good judgment.
