    Job Title: Physical Therapist/Athletic Trainer Assistant

    Position Function:

    • Support the Associate AD/Sports Medicine in providing physical therapy services to all sports.
    • Assist in athletic training requirements for football and other sports as necessary.
    • Handle additional administrative tasks assigned by the Associate AD/Sports Medicine.
    • Must hold dual credentials as a physical therapist and certified athletic trainer or possess an ABPTS certification in sports physical therapy.

    Salary Grade: 15

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Support the Associate AD/Sports Medicine in delivering rehabilitation services to all sports.
    • Work closely with staff athletic trainers, team physicians, and other healthcare professionals on rehabilitation needs.
    • Collaborate with the Assistant Director/Sports Medicine (Football) for the football program's rehabilitation services.
    • Assist in facilitating collaboration between team physicians and their physical therapy departments.
    • Assist in addressing athletic training needs for football, including direct team and sport coverage.
    • Manage day-to-day operations of athletic training rooms, ensuring proper equipment use and facility maintenance by student-athletes.
    • Assist in preventing and caring for student-athlete injuries and illnesses.
    • Maintain health/injury records on student-athletes and act as a liaison between students and team physicians.
    • Meet continuing education requirements for state and national certification maintenance.
    • Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team including strength and conditioning, sports science, sports nutrition, and sport psychology/counseling staff.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Doctoral degree from an accredited physical therapy program with at least one year of experience in a professional/collegiate Division I athletic program as a licensed physical therapist or athletic trainer.
    • Certification or Licensure Requirements: Must have dual credentials as a physical therapist and certified athletic trainer or hold an ABPTS certification in sports physical therapy.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • BOC Certified Athletic Trainer and eligible for licensure in the State of Mississippi.


    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    • Understanding of fundamental concepts.
    • Capability to work extended and irregular hours.
    • Willingness to travel.
    • Ability to work in varying weather conditions.

    Working Conditions and Physical Effort

    • Involves physical exertion such as lifting and bending regularly.
    • Exposure to elements like heat, cold, noise, dirt, chemicals, etc.
    • Requires walking, standing, lifting, sitting, reaching, talking, hearing, and handling objects with hands.
    • Handling heavy objects weighing up to 100 lbs. regularly and occasionally up to 150 lbs.
    • Visual acuity to read information in print and electronically.
