    RESEARCH SCIENTIST

    At McLean Hospital

    McLean Hospital, America's top ranked freestanding psychiatric hospital, is inviting applications for a Research Scientist in the Metabolic and Mental Health Program located on our main campus in Belmont, MA.

    We are seeking a highly motivated and creative individual with an established record of independent research to join our multi-disciplinary team exploring the metabolic and mitochondrial drivers of mental health disorders and metabolic therapies to treat them.

    Current research in our program is broad in scope and focused on:

    • Elucidating the roles of brain energy metabolism and mitochondrial biology in mental health disorders. Identifying metabolic and mitochondrial biomarkers that might be useful in research and the clinical care of mental health patients. Studying the effectiveness of treatments that target metabolic and mitochondrial pathways in patients with mental health disorders, including medications, supplements, nutritional and other interventions. Using a broad range of research and clinical tools to pursue the above goals, including clinical trials; metabolomic, immunomic, proteomic, genomic, and other biomarkers; neuroimaging studies (MRS, FDG PET, fMRI, DTI); human brain cell models; brain organoids; etc.

    Successful candidate will participate in the teaching and mentorship of trainees including postdoctoral fellows.

    Salary and recruitment package in accordance with Hospital policies, and a Harvard Medical School appointment at the academic rank of Lecturer, Instructor or Assistant Professor (full or part time) will be contingent on meeting the requirements for an HMS appointment and candidate qualifications including active licensure appropriate to discipline.

    Qualifications:

    • M.D. or Ph.D. degree in Behavioral Neuroscience, Pharmacology, Bioanalytical Neurochemistry, Experimental Psychology, or a related discipline with an established record of independent research aligned with the goals of the Metabolic and Mental Health Program.
