A day in the life

You begin your shift in Aitkin, MN by preparing a safe, efficient workstation. Lockout/Tagout is second nature as you set up the cell for maximum throughput. You recall programs, load new tooling and touch off, and complete an independent, end-to-end CNC setup. Your first article is qualified for inspection, and you make small program edits to dial in surface speeds and chip load. Throughout the day, you may run multiple CNC machines, accurately count materials and finished parts, and log production quantities to hit the target parts-per-hour. You perform routine quality checks, keep the area clean and organized, and complete preventative maintenance tasks that keep the equipment running at its best. Tooling is checked out via the tool crib system, fixtures and workholding are set, and communication with your Production Supervisor is crisp and consistent. Above all, you champion a safety-first mindset across the floor while maintaining a positive, customer-focused attitude.

What you will do

• Independently perform complete CNC machine setups and recall/input programs.
• Load and touch off new tooling; manage tools through the tool crib inventory system.
• Execute advanced machine adjustments and minor repairs as needed.
• Adhere to all safety procedures, including Lockout/Tagout; promote a safety-first culture.
• Conduct first-part approval and ongoing quality checks; document results and daily communications.
• Track production accurately, including part counts and parts-per-hour metrics.
• Operate multiple CNC machines when needed; set fixtures and workholding.
• Read, write, and save setup sheets; perform small program edits.
• Maintain a clean, organized workspace; perform and assist with preventative maintenance.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• 2+ years of machining experience with solid troubleshooting capability.
• Prior manufacturing environment experience preferred; strong general machinery knowledge.

Skills and competencies

• Read blueprints; use calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, and bore gauges with confidence.
• Moderate math skills (fractions, decimals, metric conversions).
• Knowledge of metals, surface speeds, and chip load.
• Forklift certified; follows hoist safety protocols.
• Safety-minded in variable work conditions; able to follow instructions precisely.
• Detail-oriented problem solver with a sense of urgency; self-motivated and proactive.

Physical requirements

• Lift 40 lbs. consistently and stand for up to 10 hours.
• Excellent hand-eye coordination; effective use of power tools.
• Strong manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina.
• Consistent use of personal protective equipment.
• Comfort working in a production environment with fluctuating temperatures and humidity.
