    GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:

    Iowa Lakes seeks a motivated, energetic, active-learner-centered full-time instructor to teach a variety of Social Science courses, specifically, within the sociology and psychology areas. Teaching assignments may be during day/evening/weekends, hybrid, online, and/or the TV system, or at multiple campus locations. Instructors will advise, engage with students, teach, evaluate, and report student performance and progress in assigned courses in accordance with college and division policies and procedures.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (% OF TIME):Constant (-%)
  • Effectively organize, teach, and evaluate student performance and progress in assigned course offerings in accordance with established syllabi. Assignments may include various delivery formats, methods, work schedules, and locations.
  • Evaluate, report, and record student performance and progress according to college and division guidelines.
  • Maintain current course syllabi and provide student guides for all courses taught.
  • Frequent (-%)

  • Maintain established office hours.
  • Serve as an academic advisor to students and make referrals, when deemed necessary to other College personnel, such as the Dean of Arts and Sciences, Executive Dean, Registrar, Educational Counselor, Financial Aid, etc. for more specialized information and assistance.
  • Attend and serve on assigned and voluntary programs and College committees.
  • Assist in the development of new courses and revisions of existing courses in discipline area.
  • Assist in the marketing of college programs and admission of students.

  • Represent the College in a most positive, professional matter to employees, students, visitors, and the general public.
  • Ability to organize and present various curriculum concepts to a wide range of students with varying backgrounds and abilities and adjust teaching techniques accordingly.
  • Present oneself in a classroom setting in a manner that is acceptable and consistent with program and College guidelines, policies, and practices.
  • Assume responsibility, deal effectively with problems, and exercise independent judgement when making decisions.
  • Establish and maintain good working relationships with students, staff, administrators, and other contacts.
  • Read, understand, and express oneself clearly and effectively in oral and written communications.
  • Possess strong human relations skills and the ability to effectively relate to diverse personalities.
  • Be a creative, energetic, and self-motivated individual with demonstrated leadership and organizational skills.
  • Possess a working knowledge of personal computers and educational media equipment.
  • SPECIAL DEMANDS:

    Sedentary to light work. Position involves sitting most of the time in an office or classroom/laboratory setting. Constant (-%) reaching, standing, walking, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, repetitive motions, and viewing various types of close visual work. Frequent (-%) stooping, kneeling, crouching, pushing, pulling, and carrying. Exerting up to pounds of force occasionally and pounds of force frequently. May be required to travel between campuses utilizing personal vehicle. Must have valid driver's license, good driving record, and provide proof of insurance.

    Employment with Iowa Lakes Community College is dependent upon successful passage of a criminal background check. Must be legally eligible to work in the United States without employer sponsorship.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    Master's Degree in Sociology or Psychology or a Master's Degree with graduate credits in Sociology and/or Psychology is required. Preference given to persons who also have graduate credits in both Sociology and Psychology enabling them to teach courses in both disciplines. Candidate will provide evidence of a strong body of creative interactive ability to share knowledge effectively to a diverse student body. Prior teaching experience, professional experience, and experience working with LMS (Canvas) is preferred.

    Salary: Commensurate with education and related experience for a -day contract.
