    Description


    The Iowa City VA Health Care System is looking for a full-time Nursing Assistant to join their team in Rehabilitation & Extended Care Home Health.

    This role involves working under the supervision of a registered nurse or provider and requires individuals to have a solid understanding of practical nursing procedures.


    Basic Requirements:
    • Citizenship: You must be a citizen of the United States.
    • English Language Proficiency: Nursing Assistants need to be proficient in spoken and written English.

    Education or Training:
    To qualify, you need to have completed one year above high school with courses related to the NA occupation.


    • Completion of a specialized course of study may also fulfill the experience requirements.

    Grandfathering Provisions:
    Nursing Assistants employed in VHA prior to March 12, 2015, are considered to have met the qualification requirements for the role.


    • Employees who do not fully meet the basic requirements may be subject to certain provisions.
    • The full performance level for this position is GS-5.

    Grade Determinations:
    (a) Experience and Education


    • No experience beyond the basic requirements is necessary for GS-3.
    • GS-4 requires specialized experience or education, along with demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities.

    Grade Determinations:

    • GS-5 requires one year of progressively responsible assignments and experience equivalent to the GS-4 level.
    • The candidate must also demonstrate professional KSAs.

    Demonstrated KSAs:
    The Nursing Assistant will assist in providing a full range of nursing care to patients/residents and will play a key role in patient care.


    • The Home Health Nursing Assistant will be responsible for assisting veterans with personal hygiene, light housekeeping, and meal preparation in their homes.

    Preferred Experience:
    Prior experience in Home Health is preferred.

    Physical Requirements:

    The role involves heavy lifting, carrying, pushing, and other physical activities. Additionally, emotional and mental stability are required.

    Duties include providing aid in personal hygiene, housekeeping, and meal preparation for veterans unable to perform these tasks independently.


    Work Schedule:
    Full-time position, Monday - Friday, 7:30am-4:00pm.

    Work Location:
    Iowa City Federal Building.
