- Consistently demonstrate commitment and support for the Sterling vision, mission, policies, and procedures.
- Performs work in a safe manner in compliance with the job safety analysis (JSA), and other work instructions and policies as outlined by management for the use of hand and power tools, and saws.
- In accordance with policies and procedures, wear the designated personal protective equipment (PPE) required.
- Maintain a clean workspace that is clear of debris and clutter following the guidelines outlined in the 5S visual factory standard, end of shift cleaning protocols, and tool placement(s).
- Follow all operating, cleaning, and safety procedures in the operation of company equipment and machines including fork-lifts, overhead cranes, saws, etc.
- Immediately report any safety related injury or illness and/or any machinery failure to safety and follow protocols as outlined for lockout, tagout and as outlined in the company policies and procedures.
- Understand and follow written and verbal instructions for the position and the production line.
- Basic understanding of lumber grade and species.
- Read and interpret part drawings pertaining to finishes and treatments required for each production part.
- Perform the following functions in accordance with company policy and procure required to finish production:
- Gap filling and sanding
- Application, measuring, and trimming of Vaproshield protective membrane.
- Application of protectant coatings (KP-11, KP-12).
- Machining pockets and installing lifting pins and other devices.
- Perform quality control inspections, follow all reporting and record keeping procedures, and immediately report any discrepancies, quality concerns to management.
- Forklift and material handling operations as requested or required.
- Communicate with team members and support teams to ensure production deadlines are achieved at high quality levels with minimal wasted time and materials.
- Cross train within the team, and across other departments, as needed and required.
- All other duties and projects as assigned.
- High school graduate, or GED is required. Journeyman Carpenter, or comparable trade school certification preferred.
- At least one (1) year of experience is required, two (2) years preferred, in woodworking or carpentry.
- Must be able to use and interpret blueprints, tape measurements and digital calipers.
- Must be proficient with power tools including saws and sanders.
- Previous production experience and fork-lift and/or overhead crane operations preferred.

Sterling is the largest manufacturer of Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) and is now offering a new approach to structural mass timber with a simplified, streamlined and cost-competitive product line. Our TerraLam CLT is scalable, cost-competitive and has the potential to rapidly decarbonize our built environment.
Position Summary:
This position plays a key role in the manufacture of structural cross-laminated timber (CLT) panels. Working closely with teammates and management to master all finishing methods, techniques and quality standards associated with bringing CLT to a completed state. Individuals within this position will also perform material handling functions and will be trained to assist with the machining portion of the process.
